Corona Virus

I was reading an article about people predicting corona spread to US... so they rented a U-Haul truck and storage space and they drove to every store and purchased wipes and hand sanitizers.... creating shortage.  Once everyone ran out, they listed these items for up to $70 per bottle of sanitizer on eBay and Amazon.  Both eBay and Amazon suspended these accounts and said either sell at fair price or get banned.  Now, these guys stuck with tens of thousands of hand sanitizer and wipes with no way to sell.

The tides turned in China and South Korea because their populations and governments were willing to strictly follow measures that Americans would throw little personal liberty hissy fits about.

And warm weather is going to slow this down only slightly by current observations. It's spreading just fine in tropical/subtropical areas now.

The Chinese scientists think warmer weather slows transmission, Harvard disagrees, and neither have had their work peer reviewed. The fact is that the virus is spreading like wildfire on a global scale, so don't count on the summer to save us.

Here in Colorado we've only tested 711 people. We have 101 confirmed cases. The number jumped by 30% today. There are still a lot of infected people out there who are either experiencing minor symptoms and think they have a cold or they're still in the incubation period and are currently asymptomatic. The really scary thing for us here is that our first fatality occurred today. She was a lady in her 80s with pre-existing health conditions (to be fair I think being in your 89s by itself probably qualifies as a pre-existing health condition). What makes it scary is that she played bridge with over 100 other elderly people over the course of five consecutive nights prior to her diagnosis. There were a lot of people potentially exposed and they're all part of the most vulnerable demographic. We could have an even worse version of the Seattle nursing home situation here soon because these elderly people weren't confined to a nursing home. They were out and about after their exposure.

ah fukkin hell man.   this is awful

I mentioned all this about 20 pages ago, but if you look at the map, this virus is presenting like many others as far as warm vs cold air.

Cold air is thin and airborne particles travel much easier and "float" if you will, much better than in warm humid air.  Thick air generally sends them straight down to the ground.  Now, if you are not washing hands and practicing basic hygiene, then it will spread with no problem.

But areas above the equator, where it is winter, seem to be worse at the moment.  That is why I said the folks below the equator had better prepare now before they get to their winter.

Current death rate in US  1.9.  Has been going down with more people getting tested.  Many that tested positive not really that sick

President finally gets tested and is negative, but who knows about next week.  Be better if he started "not shaking hands" as an example

it's very difficult for me to believe trump doesn't have it, just based on who was around him. that would be like rolling a nat 20. plus they wouldn't announce it if he had it.

four basketball coaches from a major local high school are currently quarantined after sharing a car/hotel one week ago with someone at a conference who has tested positive. those coaches teach several classes, sports, and had been mingling around the school until thursday night.

lmao im glad this rotation is ending tuesday

i listened for 8 days as someone died from aspirational pneumonia.   that sound, the idea of wards of people laying there making that sound, the death rattle, is worse than any hell ever described by anything i have ever read.

I watched a podcast last night where an infectious disease specialist / doctor/ Professor at Minnesota predicted, when asked to compare this to the flu (30,000 deaths per year) that the virus would kill around 480,000.  Not sure if he meant world wide or nationally--but he was not referring to global stats in any other part of the conversation.  He said it is just beginning.

Because our health care system and government is total poo and if there were mass infections, many people would die

By banning large crowds and social distancing, they are hoping to slowly spread out the virus so they are able to treat everyone

I -almost- wish these naysayers (mostly ultra right wing) would all get the virus so they would finally understand how serious it is

If 50,000 North Carolinians got it in the next month, we'd be in major trouble because not all could be treated and hosiptals would choose who to treat and who to hope will survive it

Is that really what you want

ALL of us have family members where the COVID-19 could be fatal to them

So lets not take a fuging chance

Not cool to wish suffering, disease and death on political opponents.  That is done regularly in the TB.  It is their mindset.  Death is their only solution for those that think differently than themselves.  Maybe you visit them, they are welcoming........if you hate the right people.

there will be healthcare workers all across the county traumatized by the sound of lungs full of fluid, the kind of thing they will probably never get all the way over, if they don't have a psychotic break in the process

Never know, but China, the most populous country on earth is on the downside of their curve and only had 3200 deaths so far.  Maybe he is talking the world?  South America and Africa  and Australia had better be preparing

That sounds horrible.  It is called "vicarious trauma."  The guy I was watching also said that closing schools:  37% of nurses have children in school....what are they going to do with them?

I watched my grandmother die by sitting with her, holding her hand, as fluid filled her lungs.  It was 2 days before Christmas.  When I think of Christmas now---that image is one of the first I get.  It is traumatizing.
