The Panthers played the final 13:25 of Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers without running back Christian McCaffrey, who suffered an ankle injury.

McCaffrey limped off the field after scoring his second touchdown of the day, a 7-yarder on fourth-and-2 that cut Carolina's deficit to 21-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Athletic trainers then re-wrapped McCaffrey's right ankle, but he never returned.

"I know he came out in the first quarter at one point, and then at the end of the game they said he was out with a lower leg injury," said head coach Matt Rhule, who didn't have an update on the extent of McCaffrey's injury after the game.

"I haven't seen the doctors yet to tell me where he's at."

Before he was sidelined, McCaffrey had 18 rushing attempts for 59 yards and a pair of scores. He also caught four passes for 29 yards.

McCaffrey was replaced by Mike Davis, who finished with one carry for 1 yard and eight receptions for 74 yards.

Sunday was the 50th game of McCaffrey's career. He has not missed a game in his three-plus seasons.

There have been a ton of injuries today at every position. The Niners and Broncos lost like half their starters...

I know. But think a little deeper. CMC has had a massive workload the past 2 years. RBs take some of the most hits in the league and they wear out quickly. There are outliers. I hope he is one of them because he can be an awesome asset if we get a stud qb on a rookie deal and beef up this oline.  I know this conversation has happened a lot and I love cmc and he is awesome to watch but I expect him to start getting knicked up a lot these next couple of years.

    • He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.
    • Not only for Andersen but the whole team, having not beat the Habs this season before tonite.  Shows them that they aren't jinxed.
    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
