Y’all gonna have a fit when they succeed. Say what you want about Hurney but the guy NEVER missed in the first round....can’t say that about our current GM. Not hitting with our high draft pick can set us back years. Only time will tell what our future looks like.

How can you not hit when you’re picking near the top every year. He had a handful of lower draft picks and if we analyze them I doubt they will look as good in retrospect. Yes he did have a few good picks over the years but his contracts were terrible. Free Agent signings were questionable. It’s sad we have yet to have had a decent GM in this organization that some are really Hurney apologists.

You are. Completely. What he did in college means nothing. And you want to believe that somehow Hurney convinced a coach with total control to make a horrible decision. Why would Rhule even consider a lame duck GM with a subpar resume, over anything he thought. Why does Brady actually coaching TB not even factor in? That’s the definition of picking and choosing. Just to somehow justify that the current staff didn’t have a hand in it. That’s why he was fired when TB flopped. To place blame on Hurney. Exactly what I said would happen back when he was kept on in January.

I literally said it likely factored in to Hurney's reasoning for pounding the table for Bridgewater, and why Rhule was okay with it.  But yeah, I'm the one picking and choosing...

I don't know how much more clearer I can make it for you.  Nobody is freakin' saying Rhule didn't want Bridgewater.  We are saying Rhule wasn't the one who pounded the table the hardest for him, and if it was Rhule's sole decision, Bridgewater either wouldn't have been signed (because the team was comfortable with tanking) or he wouldn't have been signed to a long-term deal.  Again, there is a reason Hurney got fired when he did and why the team is already ready to move on from him.

You keep acting like we're saying Hurney forced TB on Rhule and Rhule had no input and nobody is saying that.  I'm going to say it one more time.  Rhule was okay with Teddy.  Rhule and Hurney were likely cognizant that Bridgewater had worked with Brady.  But Hurney is the one who most wanted to pull the trigger, and (this I can say with almost certainty) Hurney was the one who chose to give Bridgewater the contract that he did.

I also find it hilarious that you keep trying to spin it as a "you are just trying to place blame on Hurney."  No, that isn't the case at all.  I've actually said in the past that I was okay with the Bridgewater contract because of how easy it is to get out of after 2021.  And relative to other starting QBs and their contracts, it's cheap.  Even now, I don't think it is that big of a deal.  This isn't about trying to place blame on anyway.  I am just telling you how it is.  So stop crying about people picking and choosing or just trying to place blame on Hurney.  That isn't what I'm doing.  I'm just looking at it from a POV of... Hurney benefited the most from Bridgewater working out.  Hurney wasn't fired until Bridgewater officially flamed out, despite the fact the rookies were playing well and the team was competing harder than they did otherwise.  Rhule immediately distanced himself from TB and all but made it obvious they were moving on.

What kind of response is this?

We're talking about the signing of Teddy Bridgewater.  Not once have I brought up any of that other stuff or made any mention of picking-and-choosing.  Nor did I respond to a post of yours mentioning any of that, only that you were suggesting Rhule is the main culprit of the TB signing.

I’m just trying to understand how Rhule can do all these other moves, but being the SOLE decision maker he can somehow be not “the main culprit” in this particular one. What happened? Did Marty hold his breath and force Rhule to sign him for that amount? What magical spell did Marty weave to make Rhule consent? On just this issue?

At 4:19 you can see the Panthers fans on TV celebrating the Greg Little pick while the Bills front office is essentially celebrating our stupidity

And fast forward two years later and Little and Ford are both essentially busts.  But damn if we didn't look stupid cause that one Bills dude high fived a few other dudes lol.

But this isn't the conversation we are having.  We are strictly talking about the decision and signing of Teddy Bridgewater.  I have at no point in our discussion made any reference or comment to other decisions we made and who was at fault.

Which is why there is no point in me responding to it.  You are trying to put words in my mouth and I'm not going to bite.  Case in point:

Did Marty hold his breath and force Rhule to sign him for that amount?

How many more times do I need to say that I don't think Marty Hurney forced Teddy Bridgewater on Matt Rhule?

If this is what you are going to do then we can just agree to disagree.

Too bad Tepper and Rhule didn’t see this and stop it. Marty really did kick the rebuild in the nads with a 2020 off-season of spending just to get us right back to 5-11.

We were hearing reports even before the season that Marty believed we could win now as opposed to embracing the rebuild.

Yep. There’s no way to chip through at this level of delusion. That fictional scenario is ridiculous. And you believing that contract isn’t a big deal is absolutely proof you don’t understand the mistake that was made, much less who was responsible. You roll with your sources. What’s my motivation here? It’s well-known I think Hurney is awful. But I predicted this exact scenario before any roster decisions were made. I did wait and toss an remark in a thread only hours after he was fired. Yet somehow, not one mention anywhere before? You’re seeing what you want. I’m seeing what I predicted unfold.

So you believe Hurney was allowed to sign TB without Rhule’s approval? Just signed him and told Rhule to live with it? Is that what we’re going with here? The HC with a 70M contract and an new OC who was the only one with close knowledge of the player, or a lame-duck GM making about 1M?

What other moves did Hurney force onto Rhule? Just the bad ones?

It's entirely possible that Rhule was intrigued with Teddy's potential and familiarity with Brady's system like everyone else was, then saw the contract that Hurney gave him and immediately poo his pants like everyone else did. We don't know.

Just because the coaches didn't come right out and say "We're stuck with Teddy B, God help us." to the press, the huddle legend of Rhule and Brady "sticking out their necks for Teddy' was born.

The point isn't that Rhule was against signing Teddy in general.  The point is Hurney lobbied the hardest for him and is the main culprit behind the contract he got.  Rhule may have been okay with signing Teddy, but everything Rhule and Tepper have ever said has made it clear they were cool with a rebuild.  I seriously doubt they were sold on signing Bridgewater to the deal Hurney gave him, BUT I imagine that Rhule was still at a point early in their relationship that he was willing to trust Hurney and his evaluation.

It isn't a coincidence that Hurney didn't get fired until Bridgewater made it 100% clear to everyone (although it was clear to most of us) that he sucked.

There is just no way Bridgewater gets signed to that contract if it was Rhule's decision only.  Rhule and Tepper were okay with sucking in 2020.  And this isn't about pawning the bad moves off on Hurney.  Even without RoaringRiot's input, if you read between the lines, it was a Hurney move through and through.

I never understood why people thought Joe Brady himself influenced it.  I do think Hurney considered the connection between TB-Brady, but I doubt first-time NFL OC Brady, who just came from LSU, ever had enough influence to say "this is the QB we should and will sign."  It was a Hurney decision, with reluctant backing from Rhule.  And as soon as Bridgewater officially flamed out, Hurney got fired and Rhule has all but said he doesn't want Teddy as his QB much longer.

But you think a lame-duck GM in the last year of his contract did have that influence?

Also, it doesn't make sense to me that Hurney was trying to save his job by signing Bridgewater to win now, while it was also reported that he wanted to take Justin Herbert with his first round pick last year.  That type of veteran QB signing while drafting the QB of the future doesn't scream "win now".  That's the type of move you make to set up long-term success, not immediate success.

And I don't buy the argument that "Rhule and Tepper were cool with a rebuild" but deferred to Hurney who wanted to win now.  That doesn't really pass the sniff test for me.  A true rebuild is a monumental decision that has huge short and long term implications.  To paint the narrative that a rebuild was just some nonchalant option that the head coach and owner of the team were like "yeah whatever we're cool with a rebuild but we don't feel that strongly about it" is not really operating within the confines of reality.  Tepper invested billions of dollars into this franchise.  You better believe he is thinking long-term with the moves he makes.  Not deferring to a lame-duck GM who is transparently trying to save his job with moves that have the potential to set the franchise back several years.

So you believe that Hurney walked in with a signed TB contract and gave it to Rhule? Just deal with it.  And you think he wouldn’t have been fired immediately?

This is a perfect example of the mental gymnastics it takes to make the current coaches blameless. Not how someone with complete control has little to no accountability.

Y’all are hearing many things that weren’t “reported” in a timely manner. And what did what Marty thought matter?

    • Still trying to figure out how many targets people think a rookie WR, let alone 2, are going to get behind Johnson and Thielen. And some think we're cool at CB/DE lol. Canales knows we have to be run first with a dink and dunk QB so at some point we have to think about stopping the other team from scoring. If Horn gets injured we're out there hoping Dane Jackson and Troy Hill can play 100% of snaps smdh.
    • That's definitely my favorite one, you got my two favorite wr prospects for r2 at least . A lot of people seem to be predicting Worthy is going to the cheifs lately
