I don’t think anybody with a level head thinks Davis gives you anything close to CMC, but he’s a really good back. I’d rather have Watson and Davis then Teddy and CMC.

Davis is a bang average back and we should absolutely let him walk.

Smith was eating his snaps towards the end of the season. If Bonnafon was healthy too Davis might have been relegated to a short yardage back.

Ah yes, I remember that year that a star running back carried his team into the playoffs and helped them win a Super Bowl.

Wait...what? No, I can't think of any, either.

But I can easily name QBs that HAVE done that for their teams. Cam almost carried the offense by himself in 2015 on the way to the Super Bowl. It's easy to list the names Brady, Mahomes, Brees, Young, Favre, Elway, Montana, etc., but I still can't seem to do that with a running back.

I mean, winning the Super Bowl IS the goal...right?

CMC is great, love him. But if we gotta lose him to finally reacquire a stud franchise QB then so be it. We don’t “have no o-line”.  We have a decent backup RB. We can find another RB in the draft easier than a QB.  All things considered, the leap from Bridgewater to Watson is infinitely greater than from Davis to CMC.  So I hope we don’t lose CMC, but I’m willing to for Watson.

it has been done. I won’t say it’s common but it has happened

I’m fine with letting him walk too. My point like others in this thread... it’s not hard finding productive RBs in the league. Super star QBs like Watson are harder to find and are a hell of a lot more important.

Seattle didn't win the Super Bowl with Alexander.

I think we could agree that Baltimore's defense had more to do with that Super Bowl win than any on offense.

So, I'll give you Bettis, but man, that's a stretch.

I think you get my point. It's much easier to win a Super Bowl with a franchise QB than it is a franchise RB.

I misread your original post, I thought it said name a team that was carried to the super bowl by the running back. None of what I said was a stretch. Those teams rode their running backs to the Super Bowl. Great qbs need a great defenses too.

I’ve been seeing a lot of crazy things said about trading McCaffrey and to those people your smoking some heavy gas we trade CMC we have no run game and with no O-Line with have no pass game Anther Cam Newton running for his life.. McCaffrey has done nothing wrong for this team besides being banged up because he’s the work horse of the team look at Julio Jones dude is a beast and has been injured multiple times but you don’t see people throwing dirt all on his name because they know he’s a animal when healthy same with McCaffrey. Then I’ve even seen “we needa trade Burns or Chinn like what”?? I guarantee you the ones that are all in for trading McCaffrey are the ones that wanted us to draft Leonard Fournette and Isaiah Simmons.. If Houston is willing to take both our first’s and Teddy Toilet water then that’s fine but theirs no way i’m trading McCaffrey point blank. And if they don’t like the trade that we give Fields Wilson and Jones are good options as well.

Because at the end of the day, it's all circumstantial. CMC absolutely did nothing wrong, but in this league there's very few QB's you can call elite or 'franchise', and those are the ones that get you a championship. Julio Jones can't carry the Falcons, Ezekiel Elliot can't carry the Cowboys, it just is what it is. It all starts at quarterback.

I would love to keep him and hate to see him ever leave, but if that's the price for a guaranteed franchise quarterback just coming into his prime, it's about bringing a Lombardi to the Carolina's.
