Folks seem to be ignoring the fact that the Texans are not obligated to trade DW.

If it comes down to dropping the no-trade provision and getting out...

...or having to stay...

...which do you believe DW will choose?

Nope. They don't have to.

If the relationship is broken and they can ultimately get something out of the break up, they would be foolish to take on the insueing PR backlash. That clause makes any trade an amicable one.

Their PR is already pretty bad, if they let him go for nothing they will get bad PR for that also.

If anything the longer it goes the more of the chance Watson's PR looks worse.

It’s amazing how people can’t seem to grasp this.

If DW doesn’t want to play there he won’t. Simple as that.

It does no favors to either side having him sit out or him showing up disgruntled.

Just saw something similar happen in the NHL this week with Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Assumes the owner is rational/sane...

...McNair is neither.

Clemson is "home". So it's pretty obvious that he's a fit here. You don't have to wonder if he wants to stay here, HOME.

DO IT!

He don’t care about being near home, it’s about money. Players could care less where they are playing if It pays them millions.

Question the OP. He's very intimately familiar with the area and region having spent a lot of time around here, around Panthers. So why not? If the Panthers can use that to convince him to sign off on a trade, why not? I'd trade picks. Picks aren't proven weapons in the NFL. A weapon like Watson is a proven commodity with both national and local appeal, moreso a couple ours down the road. Win win.

McNair is a lying POS, and apparently hasn't learned his lesson. I mean, he ain't gonna let the inmate rule him!

He can just lie to Watson with impunity and act like everything's all good! And you're supporting that? Talking about a lack of a moral compass...

McNair has proven to be a bit of a dolt, that's for sure..

What lies have been told?  Is there proof of said lies?

I'm not supporting anything, simply pointing out what the contractual obligations are.  Unless there are specific obligations in the contract mandating it, the owner isn't obligated to consult with the QB on senior management hires.

Contractual obligations aside, if someone tells you that they're going to do something and fail to do it, they've lied. Moreover, I'm not going to bore you about a verbal contract, or leading someone on with lies in order to get them to sign the contract, but suffice it to say that a man's word is still supposed to mean something.

In any event, McNair is a liar...

I don't blame Watson for forcing his hand, and like I said, I hope that he plays hardball with McNair.

Slippery slope there....often people have the best of intentions and aren't able to meet the expectations they may have set.

That said, DeShaun has specific contractual obligations with the Texans and none of those are set aside because he didn't get to pick the GM or Head Coach.

It will be interesting to watch if DeShaun decides to walk away from a $156 million contract.

We currently have 120,00,000 cap space for 2022 just with where the cap sits now. Yes Watsons salary will be high, but that is currently the going rate for a high end franchise QB. Also, his salary next year is only 10 million. It’s absolutely possible to do this thing and still keep most of our core players around.

It becomes about the price we would be willing to pay to get him. It would probably be more than we should give up.

You know, I wish this was 2022 or 2023 when this whole episode happened but it isn't. So, even if he did want to come here it is going to be really challenging for us to make a deal that doesn't rob us of some of our new core players.

I have thought and thought about it and it really probably makes the most sense for us to not be involved in a Watson deal.

Everyone clamoring for Watson hasn't factored in the cost or lack therof in signing all of our core young guy's when their contract comes up.
