And Tepper has the most of all (and it's not even close), right?

Caserio can ignore Fitts, but Cal will take Tepper's calls if it comes to that.

What if he sits out?

What if he's tearing the locker room apart. Undermining the staff and front office?

At some point, a situation gets to the point of toxicity that the trade haul you're going to get greatly outweighs trying to keep him.

1.  Watson doesn't get paid.

2.  He gets suspended for improper conduct and doesn't get paid.

3.  The McNair family, worth ~$4b/$5B, just might prefer to teach Deshaun Watson a hard lesson -- DW needs them to get rich, they don't need DW at all.

As they say, never pay ransom to a kidnapper...

You can hardly contain yourself with the erotic thoughts of an old moneyed white man "teaching a lesson" to a young talented black man stepping out of line.

Maybe they are dumb enough to cut off their own nose to spite their face but they'll have to tank their organization to do it and Watson will still end up eventually playing elsewhere

Yeah, you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to just torpedo your franchise intentionally like that. Not trade him basically means a spot in the cellar of the NFL and with little draft capital this year to help them climb out of it. Their best hope is tanking in 2021(while will likely happen anyway) and even then they still won't get the embarrassment of riches in the draft to enable them to quickly turn their situation around.

My take:

This happening would either be the best thing ever for this franchise, or the worst thing ever for this franchise. No in between.

I don't know if we have the roster built up enough to offer what we would need to land Watson and be competitive. It very well could end up like a Saints situation with Breese 7 or so years ago, stuck in perpetual 7-9 mediocrity with no draft picks to make the team better.

This dude really is about as transparent as they come. His post history is insane.

Well, you said it for me... probably a little more colorfully at that!

Not a big Darnold fan, but I'd still rate him significantly better than Bridgewater.

He at least has a chance to make a turn around like Ryan Tannehill did. Don't know that he will, but I do feel pretty comfortable saying that Bridgewater won't.

I think Darnold, in the right situation, could be really good. Similar to Goff with the Rams. His first year with Fisher was trash, put him with McVay he went off for a year or two. Granted, he fell back off, but coaching matters. That’s why I said, in regards to Teddy and Darnold, “as of now” bc now it’s kind of a wash until Darnold goes to the right situation. Houston wouldn’t be that right situation so you’d probably get the same results if Teddy went there.

Teddy + CMC + picks will make sense for the Texans. They have no QBs. They have no stars to sell to fans. They have no 1st or 2nd rounders this year. They will be the worst team in the league next year and will have the #1 pick in 2022. They will be the worst team in their division for years to come.

CMC + next year's #1 (Howell/Rattler/someone) next year puts them in at least an upward trajectory. Adding whatever additional picks they'd get from Carolina would be a luxury.

Steelers called LeVeon Bell's bluff -- twice!

Au contraire!  It's always best to keep your "franchise QB" within the fold.

The definition of naivete is failing to consider all the possible outcomes...

Watson is already rich

Houston does have needs.  Imagine trying to fill a stadium after covid....and you traded Nuk, JJ walks away and Watson sits.  A place no FA wants to go at the moment.  Then imagine being an ego maniac....and  entire nation is talking about the joke FO/owner situation they created?  Entire city, league, and NFL world laughing and pointing at the joke.   They might have money.  But the folks in Houston got egos.   Those got wants.  Those folks aren't content w/ having some money.   They got a league and nation watching them.

the NBA mentality is coming to the NFL.   Only a matter of time.  Unavoidable.

Depends on the price. An elite pass rusher on a rookie contract is worth a LOT. I'll wager we could peddle him for much more than a first round draft pick at the moment. So if they want Burns, one of those firsts is off the table, IMO. He's worth more than a first.

Reasonable.

I think Burns is one of best assets of any team out there that might be interested in Watson.

People need to remember that all 1st aren’t created equal.

Jets 1st is worth a lot more than our 1st, but our first is worth more than the first of someone like the WFT.

Burns might get two mid round first on the open market but he wouldn’t get you the #2 overall pick.

Jets and Dolphins have better picks to offer, we probably have better young players.

Honestly I can’t see a team like the 49ers or WFT out bidding us.

Worth remembering that Watson himself has said he doesn't want to go to a team that has to mortgage their future to get him.

Naturally, what complicates that is that most trade scenarios have the Texans asking potential trade partners to mortgage their future.
