You list no empirical data to arrive at these conclusions. You also willfully omit the fact that drafted players have a relatively minimal cap hit as opposed to veteran, top-tier QBs.

1/10.

What kind of empirical data would adequately represent values that are subjective in nature?

I agree he didn't give any support to his claim but I fail to see where empiricism plays a significant role. How do you empirically validate things like football IQ, instincts, leadership, etc? You could rely on stats but unless you have a standard and exhaustive means of analytics that doesn't mean much either. Example, RB is supposed to run through the A gap but Star closes the gap forcing the runner to look outside where he meets the DE, who do you credit with that tackle? What if on tape it looks like it was designed to go to the A gap but was indeed a counter, can you even make such a determination without knowing the play that was called?

A scenario where the Texans hold on to Watson long enough for most or all of the potential suitors to go in other directions, then decide they want to trade him, isn't really that hard to imagine.

I don't think they'll have any issue getting a premium trade haul for him either way. But if they wait until after the draft they're going to forego the opportunity to secure a replacement and there's gonna be a lot of booing and probably some paper bags over heads at Texans' home games next year.

I'd lay pretty good odds that the bags and the booing are gonna happen anyway.

I can't imagine being a Texans fan right now.

I could see them waiting until draft day. Have a deal in place with whoever and have them pick a player for them. Then have that team send over their next 3 1’s so essentially they’d be getting 4 1’s

The exact QB in question is on a 4-12 team. A team who didn't have a first round pick 2 of the 3 years since he was drafted and is lacking in talent elsewhere.  So either he isn't elite enough or your mantra isn't valid.

True, but just based on everything I have heard and read, I do not get the impression that McNair would ever even consider firing Easterby.  The Texans are Easterby's team and McNair's the guy empowering him.

And that being the case, there really isn't anything that can be done under that power structure that will change Watson's mind.  Best-case scenario is he says eff it and agrees to play, but now you're talking about a QB who really doesn't want to be there but just plays anyway.

IMO as crazy as it sounds.  When you consider the Texans lack of immediate draft capital or cap space.  And consider that they will almost certainly suck even with Watson this year.  I actually think you could argue trading Watson would be the best move for their rebuild.  You will get a great player or two and a lot of picks.  But they are not winning anything with Watson in the next 2 years.

yeah, I think it is largely an ego thing.  I think he realizes Easterby is problematic.  You think David Tepper gonna listen to a player going public about how he is running a franchise into the ground?   Player could be 100% right.   Don't think an owner wants to take that type L publicly.   The, I don't know how to run my business L but the player does.

The NFL has never had a shortage of people with small brains and large egos.

When such people get involved in decision making, things go wrong.

That's a pipedream. He's a 25 year old MVP caliber QB. His trade value ain't gonna drop.

The number of potential bidders might.

In that scenario though, and even accepting the premise that his value could drop, that wouldn't necessarily mean that the Texans would lower their demands.
