Read up on Jones---and Chris Simms, who has been spot on (Thanks Ricky Spanish) for the past few years, likes Jones.

I dismissed Jones--put him in the Trask category--but I started reading up. I am on board now.  Mariotta could be special in the right system--do not think he has been in the right system.  I am not sold on any USC qb--ever, so I am biased against Darnold.

I share a similar thought process as you in regards to Mac.  Simms rankings definitely did catch my attention.

All these guys have a cannon.

Tom Brady, Brad Johnson, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Joe Flacco, Nick Foles.

Jones has a cap gun from Dollar General.

lot of those guys don’t have cannons.

Only Ben, and Flacco on that list had cannons... Peyton, Eli, Brees were above avg. Arms.. Brady and Nick Foles relied on scheme and timing.

Also all these guys were drafted more then a decade ago.. The game has changed..

You are just a poster that provides me with comedy relief from my interactions with the serious posters who are not full of poo.  Thanks for the chuckles.

Well you sure keep looking me up to only be just your entertainment..humm

Plus you must have a boring life if this is your entertainment...

But we both know I faced you in a debate more then a few times.. You got your butthurt YEARS ago and still feeling the effects of your bruised ego.

Move on sweetheart life is to short.

I think that ^ should be the takeaway for the OP...was super confused when first trying to decipher the thread at first.

I can't decide between Darnold, Mariotta, or Jones honestly.  It would be one of those 3 though, not another chance for Teddy or the Alex Smith option.

If you decide to take things literally here then I can't help you.

Beside the fact I explained what the exercise was and why I used the saying in the topic and 1st post..

But if you want to follow Butthurt (for years now) MHS.. Being overly critical on a football Forum about topics.. And let me be clear about this fact.. You don't have to post in.. Cool with me!

And yet 6 of the last 7 Super Bowls were won by who?  Unauthletic QBs.  And not even young versions of themselves.  So they weren’t even in their athletic primes of their unathletic  careers.

Are we really counting Nick Foles who had a great playoff run but wasn't the QB all season.  Or Peyton being carried by a great defense and Bad Rivera Game planning..

Has Russell also won in the last 7 years..

That is also going to require giving up draft capital to get Jones. If we want Jones, we'd be better off trading down rather than expending more draft capital on moving back into the late 1st to get him.

The anticipated QB rush in the draft(which may not actually happen) probably necessitates that we take him at 8 if he is "our guy." That is the reality. I hope we haven't decided he is "the guy." But if he is, they are better off taking him at 8 than trying to get cute about it and trade up or down.

My suggestion is less about putting all our eggs in the Jones basket and more about exploiting an opportunity. If Jones slides, you offer a modest trade package to move up. This isn't about doing whatever it takes to move back up and get Jones. This is about getting a potential franchise left tackle on a rookie contract and considering buying low on Mac Jones if and only if the value is there. If the Panthers are all in on Mac Jones, which seems like a mistake,  then trading back from 8 probably makes the most sense. But the chances of solving our OL problems are a lot dicier after round 1. And that's a lot more important to me than ensuring we walk away with Jones if the other 4 qbs are gone.

OL is more than just LT, so let's not forget we really have to build that unit from almost nothing. I am fine taking an elite LT at 8, it's the second hardest position to get an elite player after QB. I would rather spend our picks building that OL in the 2nd-3rd round than waste them trading up to get Jones.

Plus, we would likely have to trade ahead of some of the 10-20 range teams, so that probably entails trading our 2022 1st.

Jones just isn't worth trading away assets to acquire, IMo.

Again you seem to be completely missing my point. If we have to trade up into the 10-20 range, we absolutely 100% should not trade up for Mac Jones. Apparently my 2 posts where I said if he slides into the 20s we can consider it wasn't clear enough.

As far as building the whole O line, you can typically find competent guards as cheap free agents or later round picks. I'm not too worried about that. Finding a LT is the challenge. We have an opportunity to do that at 8 and we shouldn't dismiss that.

I am not missing the point, you are quite clearly missing my point. Trading any draft capital to get back into the first round to take Mac Jones isn't wise. Especially when you are talking about trading up in the 21-32 range. Why even bother wasting a draft pick if he is sliding like that and we didn't take him at 8? If he wasn't worthy of that pick, he probably isn't worthy of giving up a first, second, third, fourth or whatever it would cost to get back into the bottom of the first round. Especially since we have the #7 pick in the 2nd round. That's some Marty Hurney nonsense.

We tried cheap free agents this past offseason and had some pretty mixed results. Miller was okay but we need to finally start drafting some competent players and developing them rather than dumpster diving each offseason. There is a reason the kind of players we have been getting are cheap and easy to obtain, because they are below average NFL starters or backup guys. This is yet another draft where there is a lot of quality offensive linemen in this class so we need to try and avoid having another Little/Daley draft where we missed out on a very good interior offensive line class. The offensive line is hands down the worst unit on our team, and that includes quarterback.

    • Even after this past season Sanders is a 4.8 ypc career. It's not unlikely a random draft able guy never does that for a season.

    • All his highlights are hitting pretty open gaps and breaking arm tackles so I'm on the fence. Couple good runs where it was hard to bring him down but not much of him attacking the defense head on like a Morgan DAWG
