Maybe he had a better offer that the team just didn't want to match?  It's the only thing I can think of.  We will have a better idea if he signs somewhere else and by what he gets.

Bravvion Roy and Derrick Brown looks to be our only returning DTs

For a team with not much cap space left to spend.  And much bigger holes needing attention in the draft (including QB which may take a couple picks to move up)

I think he's mostly talking next year being a contract next year for him. He tweeted something earlier to the extent that he can't wait till its turn.
