If they were willing to wait and see what was available at 8, then there would have been no reason to trade for Darnold in early April.

I think he prevents them from acting desperate. If one happens to fall to then they love, I wouldn’t rule it out...

The best news on the Darnold trade is exactly what ForJimmy just said.

We can go BPA in the draft and not be desperate.  If a QB falls that is on the top of their board, take him.

If it's Chase, Pitts, Sewell, Surtain?  Take him.

I think QB is gonna be drafted 1-4.  That means at least 1 of Sewell, Pitts, Chase, Waddle, Slater, Surtain, or Smith will be available at 8.  I love all of them.

We are gonna get an impact starter or a top talent QB.

Why not trade for Darnold on draft night if that's the case? They aren't taking a QB, period.

Because if the top 5 guys go early, other teams may jump in on Darnold starting a bidding war. Fitts said he wanted to address a need before the draft so we have more flexibility during it. Like I said earlier if the top guts are gone before 8, I’ll be very happy we made that trade.

Think of it this way...

Would you prefer to have a starting quarterback and a starting left tackle or a starting quarterback, a backup quarterback and no left tackle?

Just messing with you. Your first option of course.

I am perfectly fine with giving Darnold a chance. Earlier this draft season I went out and said that I preferred a LT, Sewell, above a QB that I was unsure of. Now that situation have occoured, Slater of Sewell should be there. Thats a win-win.

They didn't give up three picks, including a second rounder, to make Darnold a contingency plan before he ever took a snap for the Panthers. Maybe you were sold on taking a QB at 8 or trading up, I don't know, but you might as well let it go. It isn't happening now. Taking a QB at this point would be idiotic when this roster has so many other needs. Fitt is saying that all options are on the table to maintain leverage in trade discussions if a QB is available at 8 and someone is interested in moving up. That's all.

NYJ have more leverage with teams that might have missed out.

The Panthers were supposedly the only team seriously engaged with the Jets. We're supposed to believe that suddenly teams that weren't interested are going to be interested on draft night? Give me a break.

A 2nd rounder next year and a 4th and 6th rounder (comp). Far from a huge haul for your next franchise QB. You don’t pass on a top QB talent that falls in your lap unless you have a franchise QB.

Looks like 8 teams were interested in mid March. In early April we were the one team who kept pushing for him after Ohio St’s Pro Day. They next phase would be waiting until after/during the draft. You would think half of these teams interested aren’t getting their guy in the draft, so then what happens? A bidding war.

lol, you also don't waste top 10 picks on backups. Yeah, maybe 8 teams checked in initially, but every single one of those teams specifically mentioned in that article have secured a QB for this season. Carolina was the only team left pursuing him because the music had stopped playing, and Carolina was the only guy without a QB that wasn't content to wait until the draft.

They aren't taking a QB at 8. It isn't happening. Just stop it. If they were willing to take a chance on one of these QBs, then they would have waited to find a QB solution. It's really that simple. It would be awful from an asset allocation and team building perspective to trade for Darnold and then also draft a QB. Carolina would have been infinitely better off just holding Teddy for another year if that was the plan.

QB is still our biggest need.

Nope. Stop right there. If he becomes a franchise QB ok. Until then he is a reclamation project from a very green crew who did this all last year minus a more experienced GM. Until he becomes a franchise QB, we overpaid. Maybe it changes, maybe it doesn't.

Franchise QB and Sam will have to wait. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, dude has been in the league 3 years.

If we have a chance to draft a top QB we should. Plenty of LTs in the 2nd and the Pats proved you could get great value from a backup.

Denver has basically three realistic choices (for a team who thinks they’re a Qb away):

1 - Trade up (Falcons or Panthers) - Falcons are going to be way more expensive. I also don’t think they’re taking a QB with Ryan still able to produce. They’re going to go after more weapons bc they think they’re win now mode.

2 - Draft a QB in the second round or late first round. Maybe they trade back.

3 - Trade for Jimmy G (49ers saying they want a 1st which probably means they want at least multiple 2nd round picks.

The Broncos are in a bad spot...I thinkn they’d do do what it takes to get a falling QB..including giving up a 1st next year.

On principle alone, I wouldn't help the Broncos one bit. They've already took our helping and then some.

No deal.

He totally gets the benefit of the doubt.  100%   and spoiler alert we are not drafting a qb.  If we wanted fields we would have moved to 3.  We don't like him or lance
