Source: Panthers Open to Drafting Quarterback With No. 8 Pick

We may or may not draft a QB.  However since you watch football (we all do) you are the expert.  Trash PFF and others all you want, but they get paid to provide football analysis and all you do is pay you cable bill to be an armchair expert. Could it be a smokescreen? Certainly, I'll acknowledge that, but you in your divine "I watch football on TV" wisdom knows it's 100% a smokescreen.  You are quite funny, actually.  Garoppolo was not a first round pick--moot point, Smith was a known commodity and has been passed around like a sorority girl at a frat party. Matt Cassell...where do I even begin with that joke (see poor man's Garoppolo).  Tannehill was brought in as a backup, not a starter, so of course his compensation was going to be lower.  The Patriots were able to trade Garoppolo and Cassell because they kept a back stock of decent QBs behind Brady and used that depth to their advantage.  Where they screwed up is thinking Brady would never walk, he did and they got caught with their pants down by trading that away and only having scrubs waiting in the wings.  Do you see the value of having capable backups or any parallels there?  Probably not.  BTW, Sam has Grier and Walker.  I wonder what their trade value would be?  I'll give you a hint: the monetary figure resembles an egg.

Apparently you think competition is a bad thing, unless it's pseuo-competition, you know, scrubs.  As for the 2nd rounder, let's do the math, 32+17 is 49.  Once you hit around pick 50, it's not all that valuable. Heck, Fitts thinks the talent after middle of round one begins to taper dramatically.  What does he know?  I mean he's only a real life NFL GM.  He also firmly believes in stockpiling talent (notice I didn't say warm bodies) at the QB position.

Keep watching TV and maybe one day you can become a real life GM or at least buy a plaque to mount  over your big screen that says so.

It's funny, you don't even understand PFF's business model. Teams are not buying their grades (which are, by the way, completely subjective grades). They're buying their tendency breakdowns and tracking stats because they would take hundreds of man hours per week for the team to put together like the old days. So you can make fun of the hero worship of the public grades that people think are objective when they're really subjective while also appreciating the parts of PFF that make it marketable to NFL and CFB teams.

Draft pedigree is practically irrelevant after a guy has been in the league for 3 or 4 years or more. Do you really think the 49ers cares if Garoppolo was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round when they traded for him years later? Do you think it mattered whether Smith was drafted in the 1st round when he was traded multiple times? At some point in the NFL, you are what you are regardless of draft pedigree.

Again, since you continue to ignore the question - in all of NFL history, can you find an example of a guy at QB who was drafted in the top 10 and then traded for a package that was better than that while he rode the bench for a year or two? What you propose is just a complete video games fantasy - it's not real life.

The "decent" backups New England kept behind Brady were not first round picks. Cassel was drafted in the 7th round. Hoyer was an undrafted free agent. Garoppolo was basically the only guy they made a significant investment in, and they had to turn around and deal him for what you claim is cheap value.

I don't think competition is a bad thing. You're making up straw men to tear down false arguments. I am fine with them keeping Teddy around for a year; if they move him, I am fine with them signing a QB or even with drafting a guy in Day 3. What I think is a bad idea is completely wasting assets, which is what Carolina is doing if it trades for Darnold and then drafts a QB in the top 10 without ever watching Darnold take a snap for the team.

Ridiculous to say picks aren't that valuable after 50. I mean, that is just complete and utter falsehood. Hell, the Panthers just selected one of their best defensive assets in years at pick 64 last year. Teams should be hitting on starters or high-end backups with regularity into the third round.

It really is funny how butthurt you are that Carolina isn't going to draft a QB just because you worked yourself up into loving some 50/50 proposition at QB.

Just don't let this "still in the QB market" be about Mac jones...

I still love Lance but he is s project and not ready start.. And Fields Meh okay... But No fuging Jones...

I'm honestly scared this is exactly the scenario they're envisioning.  We're all over here thinking Fields or Lance are the guy at 8, only for the 49ers to take one at 3 instead of Mac Jones.

Who then falls to us at #8, where we didn't think he would be, and we then draft him to continue collecting mediocre QBs. I pray I'm wrong, but I also 1000% could see us taking Mac Jones with somebody out of the Sewell/Slater/Pitts group still sitting there.

I will literally fug something up in my house.  And Rhule's name  will literally be like Hurney's name is to half the members on this board.   TO Me!!!

I honestly don't have a problem with us not trading up to #3. I like Fields a lot. I'm not sure I like Fields enough to have outbid the Niners though. They went ALL in.

At some point you have to if you want to win in this league. If a QB falls to 8 then that’s one thing, but if we don’t get Lance or Fields because we didn’t want to trade up or settle on Sam, then I can’t forgive that.

Yea it’s whatever at this point. We’ll be in QB purgatory for the foreseeable future. It’s been botched over two regimes at this point. Hurney went and got Teddy two gloves and Fitt said hold my beer.

Classic huddle. poo on my post for telling the truth lol. Y’all so trash.

It's a calculated decision. We obviously just don't think he's worth it. I gotta trust that evaluation. I mean, we knew as soon as it happened that we no longer controlled our QB destiny as soon as we won that WFT game. If we were sitting at #3 instead of #8, I think there's likely zero chance we trade for Darnold and we'd be zeroed in on building around either Fields or Lance.

I agree ... Alot ppl here got a love affair with Fields that I just don't see as much... And if the staff loved him they could have secured him...

I think they would've tried to trade up 1 for Wilson alot harder... And at this point I'm not sure if they even like Lance.  Especially not as much as I do..

We have to revisit this 2-3 years into Fields/Lance career. For the record I also wanted us to go get Justin Herbert last year in the same ways I wanted us to draft Keenan Allen.

Yep, time will tell. We very well may be kicking ourselves in a couple of years for not doing it. That's very possible.

For 3 first round picks? If he falls to us at 8 (not a trade up), it’s too good of an opportunity to pass up. I don’t think he will be there, but if we let a future second round investment keep us from drafting a potential franchise QB I’ll be a little concerned...
