Teddy will likely get cut if we can’t trade him.

If we're cutting him we're rolling with Walker and using that $ elsewhere.  Maybe we land Mond or Mills, but meh.  Most backups are 1-5 mil/yr so we're actually saving a fair amount even though we eat dead money. For me--I'd rather roll with Darnold+Walker and no TB with 7.95 mil to spend than Darnold, 23 mil towards a backup, & no extra savings.

Cap money isn't the issue. The question is whether that small amount of savings justifies not having a quality backup this year. After watching all the jags we used when Cam went down you would think a quality backup would be important and not an after thought. Sure you are paying starting money to a backup but you are going to spend 20 million for nothing or 23 million for a guy who can start a few games and maybe get you a few wins.

Hate to do this, but @panthers55 head over to over the cap panthers page and change the setting for cap to trade. Panthers look to save cap space by trading him, more than a cut. Thats the issue.

I already said that and expect him to be traded. I also think we may have to eat some of the money on the guranteed money to get a team to make the trade assuming they want him as their backup. When have I said trading him wasn't better than keeping him or cutting him. I made this point about the trade almost a month ago. Where you been?

True 5 million difference. Unfortunately no team will trade for him

I think they might if we hold onto him and tell folks we aren't releasing him. Of course teams are going to sit back and wait for him to be released unless they want to guarantee he comes to them or think we are keeping him. We have really mishandled the PR on this from the start.

I dont think you went to over the cap-

cut post june 15 million is dead

cap sav- 8 mill

trade post june- 5 million dead

cap save - 18 million

Of the course the panthers have to pay some of the guaranteed money, maybe half or a little more. Still you see the difference in numbers. Theres a big benefit to trading him even with paying part of his salary.

This is hilarious. My guess is that Teddy (and agent) have already been talking to people he can logically go to. He did well with the Saints system. Payton knows how to use his strengths. Denver is a possibility but I can’t shake the feeling that he ends up in the Big Easy. My goodness he would be fired up ready to roll if he ended up back there.

Who cares if he goes to the Saints? They couldn't win anything that mattered with Brees - what are they gonna do with Teddy? The Saints are defined by their defense and have been for a decade now. I'd be more concerned (though perhaps not much) about Jameis figuring things out than Teddy.

Hopefully thats not all you got out of my post?

And no I don't want Teddy going back to the Saints where it gives them multiple options going into the season. If Jameis plays terrible, I don't want them having Teddy as a fall back option. As much as I want him out of Charlotte, I don't want him in New Orleans winning games while we are still paying him after we cut him. Their roster is loaded, Teddy went 5-0 there two years ago.

Didn't respond to the rest because no one is trading for Teddy in hopes of salvaging a season. He has minimal value and waiting until the season starts, when he has no time in a new system, will make no difference. Carolina could easily guarantee some/all of his salary to facilitate a trade now but if that were actually an option it would happen pretty much now.

They appear to be choosing to spend that salary money on a roster spot rather than keep a player who has proven they can't hack it. This staff and FO does not appear interested in keeping proven non-wimmers around.

    • When you feel stressed, engage in an activity instead of relying on food as a source of comfort. Comfort food cannot take away your stress, but it can work against you later when you feel guilty about overeating and gaining those pounds. If you go out for a walk instead, it will curb your desire to seek comfort food, and you will work off calories at the same time. A great way to help you lose weight is to stop eating potato or tortilla chips and start eating pretzels or pita chips instead. Pita chips are made with all natural ingredients and pretzels are very healthy, as well. Making a small switch like this can lead to great results. Before attending a holiday party or dinner, ask the hostess to share the menu with you. Once you find out what is being served, you can decide in advance what you will eat. Draw a plate on a piece of paper and portion it out. Seeing it on paper will make you feel committed to those portions while at the dinner. The less you have to make spur of the moment decisions, the more likely you are to stick to your eating plan.
