Panthers likely trading back in the first

There is a great chance one of Robby or DJ are not on the team after next year. We need weapons as much as we need a tackle or cornerback.

Even if Chase doesn't fall, WR should be on the radar. This is a good slot WR/CB draft and the Panthers need both

Sewell is the ideal fit, bc he's a premier player at a position you need, but Cincinnati is a major hurdle and I still think it's likely he goes there so it helps to plan if he isn't there

Feels a little early for Darrisaw but I can understand the argument...

I've never liked the it's too early to take player X argument. If he's the guy the team wants, take him regardless of what others think. This is especially true if you really fear he won't be there if you trade back.

You’ll like it until Lance and Fields set the league on fire and we’re stuck with whatever bum we try to replace Darnold with.

You're one of the most negative people I've seen post here. You have no idea what the future holds and are complaining about it. It's football, not life or death.

Depends on the dime and nickels. Some are worth a lot more than others.

Did they choose this path or was it actually forced on them? The Watson trade opportunity fell apart with the lawsuits. We swung and missed on Stafford. We reportedly at least had a conversation with SF about #3. Personally I think it's likely that we at least casually asked the Jets about #2 until they chuckled and suggested we talk about Darnold instead.

The Teddy bridge was burned with all the shade we threw his way. Rolling with Teddy wasn't an option. It would've sent an awful message to the locker room. At best, Darnold was our #4 option this off-season behind Watson, Stafford, and trading up in the draft. Put the pieces together and it is what it is. The best bad option available.

Watson was never a real option. The Texans never stated they were willing to trade him. Also, did you mean SF? Because it makes no sense to contact them to trade the pick they just gave up 3 first rounders for.

This team was desperate to move on from Teddy which I think we can all agree on. We were all in on Watson, tried for Stafford, and reached out for Russ (just a guess here). After all of this we were hesitant about giving up a future 2nd for Darnold. From the outside I don’t see that as being sure or incredibly high on him. I know they are going to make it seem like he is there guy because that’s smart on the team’s part. I think it was a little desperation after striking out on a few different option. Just my opinion though...

The Panthers did really goof on the Teddy situation. If they were all in on someone that was not on the trade market or a free agent, that shows very poor judgement by the braintrust. And if it is true, it could mean the future will not be bright for the Panthers.

Trading back more than a spot of two shows we've got another GM with no common sense, one player with special talent it is worth more than two players with good talent.

We had the eighth pick last year and Chinn was at least as good as Brown. Probably better. And neither was good enough to elevate the defense from dreadful to good. This roster needs a lot of talent. Nobody at 8 is going to be good enough to move the needle on their own. Assuming that the QBs, Pitts, and Sewell are gone, trading down is the best option.

I have no idea what the future holds? Well check back in with me when I’m wrong about something. I’m not negative I’m a realist, if that real is negative then so be it. This team continues to make dumb ass decisions and this is coming from someone who spends a few thousand on PSLs every year so forgive me for getting my complaining out of the way. You will join me by midseason. Y’all always do.

Considering expectations, our D performed admirably. Prior to the season, pretty much all of us expected to have one of if not the worst defense in the NFL and they were pretty far from that.

Considering telling the future is beyond humanity, yeah, you don't know what the future holds. You called guys bums when you have zero idea of who they might be before they are signed or drafted by the Panthers. That's being negative. Is Fields or one of the other big five QBs in this class a bum if they get drafted by the Panthers and take over for Darnold at some point during the season or next year? Your paying for PSLs doesn't matter nor would it matter if you never watch a game in person. I'm not high on Tepper or the people he's hired, but I'll give them a chance just like I'll give Darnold a chance.

Trading down a couple of spots is a good option but trading down to the 15 spot is not! Slater is in some ways more dynamic than Sewell so loosing out on both is stupid or should be. Is getting a good enough corner at 15 plus another pick really worth giving up game changing talent, I think not.

For sure. But those expectations were set so low because of a real lack of talent on the roster. Last year's draft class is helping, but we could still use help at every level. We're still in a position where one guy's not going to be able to live up to his potential because there are too many weaknesses elsewhere.

For instance, Derrick Brown played at or above what I thought his pass-rushing ceiling was going to be last year. But we had to drop eight guys in coverage so often that even when he beat his guy, there were too many blockers who could help on him. That's not getting fixed until we find at least a couple more solid coverage guys.

This is just a compensation question--if we move back to 15, the extra picks that we get from the other team have to make up for the fact that we're moving back to 15 instead of, say, 10. Fitterer's on record with the opinion that there are about 15-18 guys in a given draft that are at a different level than everybody else. I trust him to stay within the tier he wants while maximizing the value of our pick.
