What is the confidence level in Sam Darnold and the Panthers quarterback situation?

Rhule:

And we have a lot of faith in PJ Walker, we have a lot of faith in Will Grier, so we think we have a really healthy quarterback situation.

Thoughts?

Rhule is a psychologist.

Either that or a stone cold liar.

I mean who really has any faith in Will Grier?

What really irks me about this situation is that the whole theme about the draft has been to create competition at ever position, yet they did not draft the guy that would have made it a real competition for Darnold and brought out the best player if competing was truly the end all. Fields would have definitely created competition in the QB room.

That 2nd round pick pretty much solidifies him starting thus not really being a competition. Using that narrative really bothers me when it is selective. Should be a blanket statement but it is not.

Edit: Before any of you think I don't like the Horn pick, i actually do. I just feel like Fields was the pick there especially since he fell to your laps. Just my perspective. Fields would have at least giving you a bigger shot at finding out if you have a Franchise QB or not. The most important position in football.

Feels like they went with plan A2, and gambled on Darnold. Due to confidence or Arrogance, whichever you prefer. Here's hoping that the gamble pays off.

Most would have Sam ranked as the #2 QB in this draft, and is the same age group.

Sam dealt with some poo in NYJ, QB is a very cerebral position and they want him to feel secure and supported

Kiper (who is roundly criticized here and considered a buffoon) said that, haven't seen it from anyone else. (possibly I missed it)

If some stiff competition frightens Sam, well then, they definitely got the wrong guy (and it sure appears they don't want him to face any, competition that is).

It's not just about competition.

As mentioned previously, the team plans to treat Darnold like a rookie they're coaching up into their system.

That is a very difficult and time consuming thing to do.

Asking the staff to try and do that with another actual rookie at the same time would have been a really tough demand.

And given that they have some level of confidence in Darnold, they ultimately decided it was a task that wasn't worth it.

Ask Aaron Rodgers how he felt about them drafting Jordan Love.

Either you put your QB in a comfortable situation, no open camp poo, surround with weapons or you draft a QB early and keep the competition open

A.  Sam Darnold ain't no A-Aron...

B.  Don't care what A-Aron thinks...he's acting like a whiny bitch.

I think Rhule and Brady believe in the system and feel they can make the guys they have do well.. Teddy is gone because he wouldn't uncork the ball and couldn't throw it deep. Something Darmold and our other guys will have no problem doing if they have the time and personnel.

Well the one thing I can say is I think they have done a good job getting personnel to do just that.  Darnold will have no excuse if he plays poorly.  While the O-line may not be elite it will be good enough for him to excel especially with the weapons they have put around him.

Just for the record.  I think Darnold will do well in this offense and become a legit starter in this league.

By mid-season many of us will be excited about our future.

Actually Kiper, McShay, and Riddick all said Darnold would have been the #2 QB in this class if he was in the draft.  The only QB ahead of him was Lawrence.

They also stated that he is only 23 (younger than Joe Burrow) and he has never been in as good of a situation as he is now.

Let's see how this plays out instead of throwing Darnold under the bus.  He is by far QB1 on the Panthers depth chart so there's no reason not to support him.

Coaching up Darnold is going to be a season long process.  It's not going to be like a light switch that you can flip on or off.

There are likely to be some bumps along the way for those here champing at the bit to call this QB experiment a failure.

Panther fans should provide Sam a chance to prove himself before passing judgement.

After all, we haven't even made it to training camp yet.

The point is, you don't mess with your QB's psyche until given a reason to.

Sam was brought here to have a second chance without pressure and a better supporting cast from top to bottom.

Why throw a wrench in it by drafting a top 10 QB?

Depending on how OTAs go and minicamps (as in what rules will be enforced due to Covid) Darnold will have a good feeling of who will be around him. If he gets into the playbook and knows it in and out he'll have a good start going into training camp.

If he can play within Brady's scheme and not try to be the hero he'll play well.
