On Becoming A God In Central Florida

Watchmen

Thx, forgot these.   Add the RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES (HBO).

Becoming a God was terrific; too bad it wasn't picked up for a (probably much needed, even to give it closure) 2nd season.

Reminds me: AMERICAN GODS on STARZ was pretty good. Season One was fantastic, season two kinda crapped the bed for various reasons. Season three picked things back up again -- and then it's been cancelled so it's unlikely that they'll finish the story that's laid out in the book.

I liked the liberties that were taken to translate the book to the screen (expanded some characters significantly, changed the order of some of the set pieces). In some ways, I really enjoyed the show more... and really want to see them wrap the thing up, whether they match how the book ended or go in some other direction.

Documentaries:

  • CRIME OF THE CENTURY (HBO) - a look at the opioid crisis and how we got to where we are.  It may be slightly biased in presenting a very specific view/side of the situation, but a lot of what they talk about may make you say OMG, that's crazy.

  • LOSING SIGHT OF SHORE (TUBI) - an incredible look at four women who try to become the first crew to row a boat across the Pacific Ocean, with zero external support to help them along the way.  Battery failure? Yes. Sunburn in uncomfortable places? Yes. Run out of food? You'll have to watch to see.

  • THE MOLE AGENT (HULU) - a sweet, endearing documentary investigating nursing home abuse. Nominated for an Oscar this year.

  • MIDSOMMAR (AMAZON PRIME) - An look at life in a secluded Swedish/Norwegian cult, and what it really means to be "family".
