It's less scary than being led into the future by Hurney or Nipplrshorts.

Hurney and Nippleshorts were both praised as great at one time too though in Carolina….

He was adequate, not great. We had high first round picks on a lot of his homeruns. That was because we were not good and picking high.  Go back and look at some of his drafts and we missed a lot too.

I wouldn't even call him adequate.

Three winning seasons out of fifteen doesn't qualify as adequate.

He was flatly awful at being an NFL GM.

This cannot be argued.

I'm not defending him, I wasn't a fan of his. He was not as bad as some of the other teams in the league. Maybe adequate was too high for him. Subpar?

I'll have to see one winning season before I think about multiple in a row. This level of optimism wasn't quite as high last year but it was still there. You have to have hope but don't set yourself up for heartbreak. There should be little doubt about the defense making strides but this all hinges on the offensive line not being a disaster and limiting turnovers and correcting redzone inefficiency. Good thing we aren't banking on a draft bust having a career year with only two failed qb's waiting behind him. More than that our offensive coordinator must do better to put the starting quarterback in the best position in different game situations. Lost in the hype is he didn't always do favors for the last starter with some of the untimely calls and running down the play clock. Hopefully this will be addressed and corrected if not the same issues will rear their head especially with a new quarterback acclimating to a different offense.

Hurney and John Fox were not on the same page apparently. I think coach and GM need to be on the same page

They were generally on the same page up until 2010.

Hurney and Rivera tended to stay on the same page too. Unfortunately, neither of them really knew what they were doing.

I was excited when Ron was hired. He had been passed over a couple of times before I believe. Just kind of went stale and part of that was Hurney not getting talent on a consistent basis. 2015 was special and I hope we get back there again. If Clete Blakeman is the ref, we will be screwed.

I believe John Fox stayed 3 years too long. His stubbornness was frustrating.

How many GMs out there have only produced 3 winning seasons in 13 years of employment?

Not as time went on.  But early on....

and Hurney was praised early on.  The 2003 Super Bowl team IMO was the best team we have put together and Hurney got the correct praise he deserved at the time.   A perfect combo of adding the right draft picks and FAs.
