Who has the strongest arm in the NFL?

The NFL's Next Gen Stats service has been tracking the longest completed air distance for quarterbacks since 2016, giving five seasons worth of data through 2020. Using that five years worth of data, these are the 10 players with the longest regular season throws since 2016 — the main disclaimer here is that for the throws to count, they have to have been completed.

Player Team Year Completed Air Distance (yards)
Jay Cutler Bears 2016 65
Russell Wilson Seahawks 2020 64.4
Cam Newton Panthers 2016 64
Josh Allen Bills 2018 63.9
Baker Mayfield Browns 2018 63.8
Deshaun Watson Texans 2020 63.4
Justin Herbert Chargers 2020 63.2
Derek Carr Raiders 2016 62.9
Kirk Cousins Vikings 2018 62.9
Jared Goff Rams 2018 62.7

Why are you here if you don't want us to engage you on your strong opinions?

I certainly didn't join the huddle to repeatedly predict the failure of the teams new QB.  You're free to that.  Just don't get upset when other fans defend.  You call us homers and parrots, we call you wet blanket, and debbie downer.

I'm here to cheer my team on and share my opinions.

I'm curious about the basis for your "decision making" evaluation.

I've watched some of Darnold's games, including all of his ints last year.  I don't see a quarterback who makes an ungodly number of mistakes.    Some of his ints were stupid, but some were tips at the line, others under pressure, some  just impressive plays by excellent defenders who could drop back because the d could pressure without blitzing.

He has a bunch of ints, but nothing off the charts.

Is that the basis for "between the ears" assertion?

Oh, feel free to challenge my opinions. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again in the future. That guy's entire shtick is not voicing an opinion and just bashing anyone who has anything other than a straight homer line opinion.

If you hate to lose, think that the only way to have a chance at scoring, is tossing it up in hopes a WR comes down with it, you make stupid mistakes.

Football smarts/IQ is vastly different from intellect....God knows, dumb-as-rocks guys like Bradshaw and Marino would not be in the HOF, and Harvard guy Ryan Fitzpatrick would be a shoe In for a gold jacket.

*Both TB and DM have both admitted or laughed about the low IQ scores.

Yeah I think Baker launched it 70 yards on a Hail Mary, it was just incomplete. Kirk Cousins being on there shows it doesn’t show the whole story. A 50 yards pass from Rodgers looks a lot different than a 50 yard pass from Teddy. The great arms can launch it without having to lob it up high.

The fact is Darnold’s arm is more than capable and he went number 3 overall with his turnover issues for a reason right? I don’t think and average arm, average athlete, with turnover issues gets drafted that high.

Did you watch any of Tim Couch's career?

He was crazy accurate in college. Had the NCAA record for highest completion % in a game, and had the most completions in a season. I think he had the most passing yards in the SEC until Burrow broke it. I would say he got drafted because of his stats, not necessarily athletic ability. He had 4275 yards and got Kentucky to 8-4.

I'm just saying, that's an average arm/average athlete for an NFL QB at best and he went #3 overall.

What impressed me most with Burrow was his ability off schedule. The guy threw the same ball whether he was in a clean pocket, under pressure, running for his life, whatever. It was kinda crazy. I think that's where the talk of the Mahomes comparisons came from.

Oh yeah, Burrow is legit. Smart, athletic, competitive, and seems to be a film room junkie. The man stays calm under pressure, if they can protect him, he should be the real deal. Check out his jump from Jr to Sr year.

He had his chance and didn’t waste it. It will be interesting to see how much of it was Burrow and how much was Brady’s coaching. I’m sure it was a combo of both.

Also don't underestimate the negative impact of the '80s high school offense LSU was running prior to Brady's arrival.
