can he stay within the game and not force the ball trying to eek out another first down

Given what we had to endure from Teddy last year, I honestly wouldn't mind a bit of this. I'd rather fail while trying than fail for lack of trying.

If that's the expectation every QB will always come up short. They're all gonna occasionally fug up. No way around it. Those guys on the other 31 teams are professional football players and coaches for a reason.

The way people talk about Darnold, I think of Winston.

Talk about a ton of talent combined with bad decision making.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets benched for Hill.

It's an interesting parallel for sure...

...that said, I'm unsure why "coaching it out of him" would be any more of a challenge with Jameis than it will be with Sam.

Jameis's stats are better across the board.

Is Sam getting benched for PJ in the set of possible outcomes?  (in your opinion)

He did have good passing and TD numbers.

Poor decision making shows up like lightening in ints.   Winston had 30 ints in 2019.  They had a great defense, o-line and receiving core.     Bruce Arians is considered to be a pretty good QB coach.  They lost to us on turnovers.  Swap out QB's, upgrade TE and running back (late in the season)  and you have a SB.

It will be a hard case to make that Winston has better decision making than Darnold when Winston had better wrs, oline and coaching and threw 3x the number of ints.  But I would love to hear this one.

Gase compared to Arians is night and day.  Winston already had what many considered a pretty good QB coach.  Its possible Peyton can do what Arians can't.  I doubt it.

Do you consider Gase and Arians are at the same level?

For injury PJ will get play.  Otherwise, unlikely.  Darnold's int rate was below 1 per game.  I assume Darnold's int rate will go down.

I think the more pertinent questions should be:

can he consistently set up his protection at the line

can he stay within the game and not force the ball trying to eek out another first down

can he get better arc on his corner routes

I’m general just play mistake free football for 70 plays a game 17+ times a year

i think he has the high ceiling but to me that means nothing without raising his floor, so hears to that lol

I think limiting mistakes is the foundation of winning games.  But you can limit mistakes and still lose.  When you are down, sometimes you have to take risks.  And  a QB knows when to take calculated risks.

For every 10 TD's thrown, Sam has pitched 8.7 INT's...

...7.2 INT's for Jameis on same metric.

Jameis played majority of his career for Dirk Koetter...he's probably worse than Gase.

That said, the current face-off/issue is Payton & Rhule...

PS -- "lightening" is what ladies do to their hair.

Koetter>Gase.  I'm not arguing that any further, it is a distraction from main point.

We're discussing if Winston can be coached to better decision making.  That experiment has been tried and it failed miserably.

Jameis had 30 ints under Arians.  Don't blame those 30 ints on Koetter.

As for typo's, autocorrects and  misspellings, if you are going to correct those here, you're going to be busy.

Actually no, the "experiment" is only beginning for Jameis and Sam...

...are you giving Sam more than 1-season to prove himself?

You know that was no auto-correct nor was it a misspelling 😉

If Sam throws 30 ints like Jameis, hell no...would you keep Sam if he threw a 30int season?

Not if Tom Brady was an option...

Why do you believe Sam is more likely to have the bad stuff "coached out of him" than Jameis?

Payton is a proven NFL coach and the Saints have a track record of success...Jameis was drafted higher, all his measurables are better, and he can really "sling it"...

...yet he's destined to fail while Sam will be a smashing success?

Your goalposts seem to be entirely portable...

Why do you think Winston  is "destined to fail"?  ..that comes from you,  I didn't say that.

No they're set.  I know you try to move them, but the thread shows otherwise.

Here's what I said:

My point is, Winston has had good coaching before, and his ints blew through the roof.

Peyton may pull it off.  We'll see.

Peyton is a far better coach than Arians, IMO.

What I'm seeing shows him at #23 in the 2020 Simms-rankings and moving up to #19 in the 2021 version.

Others:

Teddy...29 > 32.

D. Lock...25 > 33.

Cam...10 > 20.

D. Carr...19 > 14.

Trubisky...38 > out.

Wentz...6 > 18.

Jameis...33 > 25.

Minshew...30 > out.

Who has a better season -- Payton/Jameis or Rhule/Sam?

2020 Simms Rankings:  https://sports.yahoo.com/chris-simms-top-40-nfl-165422692.html

Simms moved Brady up from the 15th slot to the 10th slot.  Built in clickbait.

and he probably will finish his list with something whacky too.  Make up some bullshit argument why Josh Allen needs to be ahead of Rodgers or some poo.
