0.00% chance Tepper builds a new stadium in South Carolina...unbuilt/planned practice/office facilities have already gone completely sideways.

I dunno…maybe you should pay attention more to economic development news? He has clearly stated in the media about his desire to build an entertainment district around the stadium.  I dunno…there might be an empty 33 acre lot uptown that his current stadium sits on.  Plus another 20 acres of Pipe and Foundry land on the other side of 277 (assuming he buys all of their property).  But please tell me more of your “make Steele Creek great again” plan.

Tepper owns no developable land in downtown Charlotte.

Your imagination has gotten the best of you.

FYI, if there was going to be a deal for the Charlotte Pipe & Foundry land it would have already happened.

PS...wasn't there a lot of commentary about "developing" the old Eastland Mall site & surrounds for the soccer team?  Where does that stand?

Talk is cheap...

Tepper did say several times that he would like to build a sports and entertainment complex uptown. This was a few years ago.

The thought was the new stadium (foundry) + BofA (soccer) with an entertainment complex built on the current practice fields and extra land around the foundry not used for parking.

All this is and the baseball field would make for a pretty cool group of venues.

The Carowinds site is a short 14 minute drive from Panthers Stadium and getting in/out would be easier for just about everyone...and it also plays well to the 2-states/1-team theme in that the site straddles the NC/SC border.

Most of the infrastructure at Carowinds is old and tired and has been significantly if not fully depreciated...and the site would certainly be less expensive than the Charlotte Pipe & Foundry land (on a per acre basis anyway).

Personally I like have the stadium in town as well but clearly Tepper is hankering for a new one and it would seem he is going to consider all options in the process.

NOTE: This isn't my idea per se, a while back some other poster on this site suggested and I just happen to think his suggestion is a good one...would credit him if I could remember who said it!

14 mins? As someone who lived in freemorewest and worked off of Westinghouse rd, I can tell you that by the time you make it back downtown you will either be sober or just pissed off because of traffic. And I’m not even talking about game day. You might as well be on another planet if the stadium is near the border.

Most NFL football games are held on Sunday...

...but you make a great point, regardless of the day folks from Fort Mill would have a much easier commute to the new Carowinds Stadium.

It was a pain in the butt to even go to a knights game and that was only a few thousand fans. Other than 77 which is terrible from the border to 485 most anytime there aren't many arteries to exit the area without stoplights or other issues. And seriously, you use a Wazes app as an accurate judge of traffic while 60 thousand fans are all converging to one area within a two hour span of time?? Those apps always underestimate your time especially to venues which always have traffic and congestion. A stadium in Rock Hill would be a terrible idea.

Waze is an astoundingly accurate "judge of traffic".  I despise "apps" and Waze is one of less than a handful I  use and I use it regularly...you should try it.

Carowinds is farther from Rock Hill than it is from the current Panthers Stadium...familiarize yourself with a map pal.

PS...Knights games aren't on Sunday mornings 😉

I use Waze and it is good for pointing our traffic accidents and speed traps etc. But it estimates time as you used it assuming no obstacles, stop lights or stops and then readjusts based on traffic conditions. So no it is only accurate as you used it until you are actually driving. I had a business in Rock Hill for years  driving from Shelby. I have gone 5, ,85, 161, 77 and every road in between. And Fort Mills area is a traffic nightmare and there isn't anywhere to go that isn't.   And any stadium would be likely built near their practice facility off of Cherry Road near the practice facility as much or more than near Carowinds. And that is 21 miles from the current stadium or 25 minutes unobstructed. In other words 45 minutes most days and longer on game days. Why? Funneling 62 thousand folks into a stadium jams up anywhere including Charlotte.  And that includes Sunday morning.  A far cry from a few thousand fans coming to Carowinds a few hours after rush hour. You can shine a turd all day and it s still a turd. So is your argument. Since it won't happen I won't waste more time arguing about something that won't be happening. Why don't you acknowledge reality from people who drive that road all the time instead of trying to make an argument everyone is telling you is wrong.

Keep digging that hole...because you like to leave out the important parts:

Crossland and Tepper Sports are still investing 200mil to create commercial real estate space, a public park, soccer and recreational sports fields, a grocery store, affordable housing and additional residential offerings.  It just isn't an MLS team HQ anymore.

Its cute that you like to stir the pot, you just aren't that good at it.  Peace out, enjoy your Waze guided drive to get fireworks and booze off of Carowinds Blvd this weekend.

I just don’t think Tepper and the Panthers want to be the ones to destroy Carowinds.

I personally hate that place, but the optics of a billionaire bulldozing a nostalgic landmark like that with taxpayer money wouldn’t be good.

He’d make a lot of enemies doing that.

What do you have against Carowinds?

you think tepper cares about traffic?...parking alone down there makes him more millions

with charlotte city council involved, i think the chance of a new stadium in SC are very high

For people who think and say having a stadium at a location where you have a big parking lot around the stadium makes it easier to get in and out are totally mistaken.  I’ve been to plenty of stadiums like that and it can takes hours to get out of there after games. Stadiums and even arenas with big massive parking lots are the worst.   Having the parking spread out all across the city like it is now makes it much easier & quicker to get on the road after a game.  The only negative (for Tepper only) is he doesn’t get to participate in the parking revenue the current way.

Overall, for many reasons, the best location for the stadium is where it is now and despite the fact I don’t think Panthers need one (still a very nice stadium, with plenty of suites, club seats etc) the most likely scenario will be to play somewhere else while they tear down and build at the current location.  Or simply keep upgrading the current stadium and if possible retrofit with a retractable dome so Tepper can have his final fours and other stuff.
