Cant wait to pay skill positions top money, but have no oline.

Which means you can't get the ball to the skill positions.

Its a great gameplan some people have.

Exactly, Cam took to the SB with a good O-line and a bunch of scrubs at skill positions. I get that a big part of that is that Cam played like a man possessed, BUT, if you don't win in the trenches, you don't win. Just look at what happened to KC in the superbowl with the injuries they had on the line.

Look what happened to us in the SB when we faced a team with the talent and chips at DC to exploit the weakness on our OL. Beasley and the Falcons paved the way in week 16. Von Miller and company just took that baton and ran with it in the SB. Rivera and Shula just thought week 16 was a fluke. It wasn't.

Okay, well let me give you a plausible scenario for 2022 if we DON'T sign him. You have a roster filled with solid to mediocre backup offensive lineman and now need five starters(last year of Paradis is 2021). Right now we have one very good OT in Moton, one starting quality center and then a mix of busts, journeymen and rookies.

So, no Moton and no Paradis means we may very well be facing needing an entire starting offensive line in 2022.

I get it.   However, you overpay, it bites you in the rear.  Moton is very good, but he is not Jordan Gross good.  A RT is a LOT easier to replace than a DE, LT, or QB.  We may go near $20m, and our cap is under control moving forward, but in the end.  We all want Moton, but not if it costs us a Burns, for example.

I get that, but the Saints have convinced me that the salary cap is not real. Gettleman's main problem is that he believed that the cap was real.

I think you are confusing "overpaying" with "market value." Was CMC an overpay??

Gross wasn't some hall of fame left tackle but he was solid for sure. Take off those blinders for a brief time and realize even someone like Gross would be taking home a brinks truck in his prime in today's nfl. And Burns isn't going anywhere with or without Moton.

No doubt we got waaaaay outcoached in that game. Also, Moton is a lot better than Remmers. I said that we had a GOOD oline that year, not a great one.

I agree with your statement, but it doesn't detract from my opinion that it's better to lock down a quality tackle than a quality WR or RB.

This is why you draft Fields at 8, and have a QB on a rookie deal for 4 years plus the 5th year option.

I understand the DB need, but I'm not sold on Sam same way I wasn't on TB. And he's locked in for 18M next year.

Apparently, the Panthers weren't sold on Fields (and for the record a lot of us on this forum weren't either). I had no problem passing on him. I just can't see a QB from Ohio State (a college known for producing below average QB's's in the NFL) lighting up the league in Chicago ( a pro franchise known for producing below average QB's in the NFL).

Our secondary was terrible last year and our Oline was average at best. Drafting a stud at LT or at CB were good choices at our position in the draft.

If we had drafted a sure starter at LT in round 2 we'd be in good shape. We could sign Moton. By the time the LT contract was up/and or due for an extension in 3-4 years, Moton would likely have received all of his guaranteed money and we'd be in as position to let him walk if needed.

The die has been cast all we can do now is hope we prosper and Fields is a bust. But if he isn't and he lights it up that question will loom largely for the next few years. That's the nature of sports.

100%

I love CMC, but honestly I'd never put big money into a RB. That's a draft 'em, not pay 'em position IMO. Most just have too short a shelf life in the NFL. Sure, there are exceptions but betting on exceptions usually isn't a smart play.

(I’m fine with CMC’s contract, for the record. He’s a game changer, not just a “rb”. Shaq’s contract sickens me though. Worse than Jake’s last extension imo)

CMC's contact is garbage the one season we had a winning record with CMC on roster Cam was leading rusher .... CMC's stats haven't led to any winning

Should have done it before we kicked off last season...like most smart teams would have done.

Either way, you gotta pay him, he's the exact type of player that you are supposed to extend, we just did it a year late.

P.S. please get out of the habit of back loading deals...get the guaranteed money out of the way as quickly as possible.
