The cap numbers aren't big enough to factor into the equation. It's loose change in the couch.

If two guys are equally bad wouldn't you cut the one that saves you the most cap?

My point in my earlier msg was that this idea you keep him for depth because there is no savings in cutting him was not entirely true.

Not necessarily. Locker room impact comes into play. Coachability comes into play. If both guys are liabilities and we're talking about pocket lint in terms of cap implications, I'm going with the more coachable guy who is best in the locker room.

At the end of the day, I think there's a decent chance that there's at least one OL on our final roster that comes off the waiver wire when other teams start paring down their rosters.

When talking oline, an additional factor is flexibility.

Little can only play LT.

Moore was an UDFA.  32 teams passed on him for 7 rounds.  Every year every fan bases freak out over their guys getting poached.

I agree.  Moore has to beat out someone at camp.  If its close and between Moore and Little, you take Moore.  Moore can play center.

Or very own GM feels that a team should be adding a QB to the roster every year.

While every year won't be 3rd round picks, the law of averages says there will be 3rd round picks made that don't pan out whether is QB or not.

Point being, it's a moot point.

Except for his first year?

I think, quite unfortunately, the staff is hyper fixated on versatility to the detriment of actual ability.

I just think we're shy on talent on the OL. I just don't think there's a great deal of actual ability in the room. We're in a situation of hoping the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. So if you're not going to be very good, be able to be not very good at a multitude of different roles.

I was honestly surprised to see us only draft one OL.

The decisions seemed to lean towards versatility over ability in the overall offseason. It was quite mind boggling when you consider how that OL was so clearly a limiting factor in 2020.

I am hoping they just have some super secret info that makes them look like geniuses. The alternative would be painful for the fans.

You mean in the top3 rounds?

Initial Thoughts + Grades on Carolina Panthers Draft Pick OL Deonte Brown - Sports Illustrated Carolina Panthers News, Analysis and More

Brown - Draft pick by current staff, could help, but it was a lower pick.  I think there is a lot of potential there, especially if he gets into shape.  If he does play well in training camp and preseason might be more afraid to put him on practice squad, might get poached.

OG Deonte Brown didn't get drafted because there were questions about his motivation for the NFL.   He showed up to the Senior Bowl as a fat lump.  So it was not that surprising he fell in the draft.

But Brown has rare natural size and he played on a national championship team for Nick Saban.

If Brown gets his act together & comes to camp in shape, that shows he IS  motivated and all those questions go away.  A bunch of NFL teams would then likely be interested in him.   He's just too high profile.

So, as you said, there's no way he goes on the practice squad.  He would be poached immediately.
