Jermain Carter Highest PFF Panther LB Last Year

Panthers LB Jermaine Carter shares what he learned from Luke Kuechly (msn.com)

"Carter did an excellent job at Kuechly’s former middle linebacker spot last year after Tahir Whitehead was benched starting in Week 11. Carolina’s defense finished the season strong in no small part due to Carter’s efforts."

“Some things Luke taught me, I’d watch TV copies of other teams, pick up the verbiage they were saying, and he taught me so much of that; how to break down film by situations instead of just watching the whole game, like first down one day, third down another. Little things like that I learned from Luke. . . he’s going to be a Hall of Famer; he’s one of the best to ever play”"

Or Whitehead. Both of them had terrible PFF scores so saying Carter had the best score of the LBers is basically just saying he was the tallest midget. Carter's score was 66, which is OK, not good. Shaq was under 50, which is bad and Whitehead was around 30, which is "shouldn't be in the NFL" level.

Shaq under 50 is pathetic

I'll take it from a 5th round pick - shouldn't be our starter though

When we grabbed him and that Smith UNC LBer that one year, I was rooting for one to succeed.  Carter looked good and totally capable last season and I think is a great piece to have.

Our defense stopped getting rolled over/could get teams off the field with Carter in the game (one of many reasons for when they improved). So, considering (a) how much we're in nickel and (b) Perryman's injury bugs, he's in a perfect spot behind Denzel and Shaq in the LB room.  Don't mind that Luvu pickup either.

    • Calling an offensive trip on the attacking down team in the playoffs seems like bad refereeing.
    • Try quoting me bud. “R.J. iSn’T oFfIciAllY BACk”… he’s back, no need to even argue this. Powell is a defensive specialist and that’s it right now, I’ve watched the majority of his HS games. Anyone thinking he’s going to come in and be a starter right away is out to lunch. He’ll eventually jump Withers but any true Carolina fan knows good and well that Hubert won’t start him right out of the gate. And the fact that we’re in on Thiero and were in on Aidoo is a obvious sign that Hubert is trying to upgrade that position. There was absolutely no reason to be a dick but yet you decided to have a breakdown. Editing to add Powell’s scouting report that literally lists his offensive game as being a work in progress (https://247sports.com/player/drake-powell-46116213/). And as for the transfers, UNC already has multiple CB’s for Tyson and are likely to land Omoruyi. Thiero and Brea are up in the air.
    • I’m honestly finding it tough as hell to project us. I have my favorites this year but they don’t really align with what I think we do.being predictive, I’m thinking about who we pick more than who I like and trying to reconcile that potential selection. I.E. - Big fan of Newton DT, Barton IOL, Frazier C, Sainistril CB, Polk WR, Kneeland ED/DE, Pearsall WR, Melton CB and a few others.. but it’s just kinda tough to figure out for this team. We’ve got a ways to go but I feel like they never lean towards the guys I like.
