New York Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp, who has tutored some of football's most noted quarterbacks, was in critical condition on Tuesday following a bicycle crash in Northern California, his agent and wife said.

The 58-year-old Knapp, an avid bicyclist who makes his offseason home in Danville, was riding on Saturday when a motorist swerved into the bike lane and hit the veteran coach in nearby San Ramon, agent Jeff Sperbeck said.

The driver stopped to render aid, according to Sperbeck.

Following the 2:50 p.m. crash near the corner of Dougherty and Bollinger Canyon Roads, Knapp was rushed to San Ramon Regional Medical Center before he was transferred to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, a San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District spokesman said.

"If everybody could just keep praying because we need a small miracle right now," his wife, Charlotte Knapp, told NBC Tuesday on Tuesday. "Just keep him in your prayers."

"We need a small miracle"....that does not sound good.

I know people love to bike, but the infrastructure in most of this country just isn't set up for it. It's always a risk, in unprotected bike lanes or not. Honestly, it's why I'm a walker instead. We need a paradigm shift as far as transportation is concerned, but it's not going to happen due to our culture.

I hope he pulls through.

My sister lived in Danville for many years, the roads out there and most of California are very bike rider friendly.  Bike paths everywhere and a road without a shoulder is rare.  Not as many sidewalks or people walking in the morning or early evening here.

I noticed moving to TN, that is not the case.  All the housing developments they are building with little thought to the infrastructure.  Traffic is just as bad in some of these smaller towns as some of the larger cities in SoCal.

Is it different in other Southern states?

God Bless Coach Knapp and his family.  Heartbreaking.

Start registering bikes like vehicles for street usage and apply those dollars directly to improvements for bike usage.

You going to start registering your sneakers so the city can add sidewalks, or nah? Or maybe cities just build safe sidewalks, roads, and bike lanes because it the right thing to do for all citizens...

This is my problem with road cyclists. They want to take everything but give nothing. Build bike lanes, build bike paths! Hey, how about a small registration fee to help build/maintain those things? OUTRAGE! Share the road they say while riding three abreast and conveniently deciding whether they'll conduct themselves as a vehicle or as a pedestrian depending on which is convenient for them at the time.

The reality is that bikes are considered vehicles when operating on a public road. Yes, they should pay a fee just like any other vehicle.

Agree wholeheartedly. While of course I hope he recovers fully, I hate cyclists around where I live. There aren’t good bike lanes and it’s very windy around here and speed limits are high on some roads. Cars going 40-50 and bikes in the road going way less. The bikes are It’s really dangerous. One of my neighbors got killed a mile from our neighborhood years ago riding his bike. It is very bike non-friendly around here.

CO completely turned me off of road cyclists sympathy. They built a dedicated bike lane on Squaw Pass right by my house after years of vehicle/bike issues. Cyclists were riding two and three abreast on a very steep curvy road and it was downright dangerous. So, they built a dedicated bike lane and out "please ride single file" signs up. Well, nothing changed. Many of the cyclists kept riding two and three abreast and refusing to use the bike lane. There was zero enforcement. There are plenty of responsible, courteous cyclists out there but there are enough entitled assholes on bikes for me to not give a single care about catering to building special use lanes for them (unless that is going to actually be enforced in which case I'm all for it), especially while they're contributing $0 to road maintenance

We are at peak distracted driving, as well. Never has there been a worse time to be a motorcyclist, biker or even motorist.

I remember growing up and if you saw a vehicle swerving or drifting you immediately assumed they were intoxicated. Now, 99 times out of 100, they are on their fuging cell phones.

Cyclists have always had dedicated lanes. They are called sidewalks and road shoulders.

    • It is never too late in life to start a fitness regime. If it is an area that you have not paid attention to in the past, there are some fundamental items that you need to consider before you think about fit and toned once more. After all, we don't want you hurting yourself. Here is a list of things you should consider. In order to maximize your running fitness, be sure to give yourself a break every six weeks or so. This will allow your body to recover and help to prevent injury. During this break week, it is advisable to not rest completely, but to cut the workload in half. To help tone up your biceps for growth and definition, a two-handed arm curl is by far the best exercise you can do. With a simple weight bar and at least 30 pounds of weight, make sure you do around three sets of 7-10 curls each day. This exercise takes mere minutes and the results will be leaner, stronger, bigger biceps.   Read This Also: • three recents. i'd be cool with any mix and matching of these three. leaning more on the AD/Pearsall combo than AD/McConkey... seems like getting similar players while allowing for another roster upgrade at the 39ish pick. Isaac, Sweat and Tampa could all come in and have an immediate impact on next year's team
