Sam Darnold Thoughts After Game 1

I hate any time we go Jumbo.

Our Oline isn't blowing anyone off the ball - spread the team out.

it is very clear once the field is condensed in the red zone, we can't find the space we need to get our skill players the ball.  Whomever is at fault for that, it needs to change, or we'll be having some rough Sundays.

I thought Arnold would help out in the RedZone, but he was anonymous. Darnold overthrew Marshall in the EndZone - but he's my other big RedZone target this year. Hope they come to play next week.

Sam was the least of my worries today. Not perfect by any means but was well above average and most importantly was not a liability or someone we won the game in spite of.

Hot Take: I thought this was the best QB play we've seen since Cams (pre TJ Watt hit) 2018 season.

I dont even know if that's that hot of a take with the competition being a one armed Cam, Kyle Allen, Will Grier, Taylor Heineke, Teddy Bridgewater and PJ Walker.

Stat line looked good, but seemed to be a lot of dinking and dunking.

11 targets to RBs

TD to Robby was nice, but Robby was wide open.  Ball looked a bit underthrown.

It was the Jets so we didn't have to do much to win.

Can he consistently make high level throws if needed against better teams?

Seems like we traded for a guy to play just like the guy we had before.

As the season progresses I would think they will ask more of him.

Pretty obvious they are protecting him.

The difference is Darnold can make those throws. I don't see the obsession with checking down to CMC.  He's our most dangerous weapon and if teams are going to leave him open than you take advantage of it.

My issue is NYJ did a good job of taking him out of the second half and NO ONE ELSE except DJ stepped up.
