I think he is overconfident in his ability to develop players.  Some guys just are who they are, and Irving and Elflein are those type of guys.

I'm not sure that those are the guys they are developing.  Those two are place holders in my estimate. Not very good ones but pickins are slim right now.

Yeah, but that's my point.  He still views those guys as developmental prospects, imo.  I think he views a lot of players through the lens of untapped potential, and he thinks he can get it out of them even if no one else has.  But, I agree, they are place holders, I just think he believes he can turn them into more while they're here.  I also think in regards to the OL, Fitterer's influence is evident too, because Seattle had Wilson playing behind converted OLinemen and other filler for the vast majority of his tenure there since being drafted.  I think Fitt views OL as a lower priority position group so they can invest more heavily in playmaking and defense, or at least that's how Seattle appeared to operate while he was there.

This^ It doesn't matter who you target its who you end up with.  If your coaching is worth a damn you will make do.

I always laugh at those that say they've ignored the o-line and more specifically the LT.  They haven't ignored it, they are throwing whoever they can find worth a damn at it since Rhule got here.  But you see the problem is this team needed so much more than the LT position addressed.

I would love to see a list of these players that are out there just dying on the vine everyone laments about. Those folks act like its raining All-Pro LT's and our front office is standing outside with an umbrella.

As for the draft, it just didn't fall our way on that front.  We are too depleted of talent to give up more picks for a chance on just one position.  We didn’t have that luxury this year.   We still need more draft picks for the upcoming draft by the way.

So fo the TL/dr crowed, we are not where you think we are in this rebuild.

Could you imagine all the damage to property if it was raining all pro LT's? 😁

I don't know if the draft didn't fall the way the FO wanted or not. To me, it seems they valued certain players more than others. That's true for every team though. I said during the draft I would have taken Slater over Horn. That's personal preference though. The FO valued Horn more than Slater and that's who they drafted.

As for the rebuild, it's year two. There is still a long way to go before the team is ready to compete.

Maybe, of course all coaches believe they can get more out of a player.  I just think it comes down to getting some vets on the line for now because that is really the only option for now.

I'm not ready to say they don't prioritize the oline or value it.  They just have way to many holes on this team and you can't fill them all in one or two drafts.  I'm going to let it play out before I make my final conclusions.

Going into the draft most Huddlers thought we were going to take Slater. This was kind of a no brainer given our o-line situation. Stunningly we took Horn with only a few Huddlers thinking that was going to happen.

I'm an o-line is more important than CB guy.

Rhule has a plan for the o-line, but I'm not crazy about it. CMC has been told to keep an eye on the A and B gaps on passing key passing downs and pick up anyone busting through wearing the wrong color. On the pass play to Robby for a TD CMC did as he was told and blocked an enormous JETS pass rusher to give Darnold time. Rhule was beaming afterwards and kept repeating to anyone who would listen that it was CMC's best play of the game.

The problem with using CMC beside Darnold for pass protecting is that he ends up getting beat up fighting for dear life against monstrous pass rushers. This could lead to a CMC injury, but we're running out of options for what to do to help the o-line.

That's the RBs job on passing downs... its why they don't trust Hubbard atm.

Nobody deliberately signs bad players.

True, but we all know that person who invites you over for a cookout and tries to serve you eye of round steaks. They don't mean to serve you inedible food, they just don't know what is good and just shop by price.

There's apparently a fine art of selecting linemen and we aren't showing much talent in that art.

The panthers are currently 3rd in the league in dead cap and 2nd in the league in available cap, and lead the league when combining dead cap with available cap. We are still only 1 year removed from Hurney and the Tahir Whitehead level of offseason acquisitions. I think fixing every single position group is an unreasonable expectation with these current cap limitations.

I also don't think Rhule's expectations of the players on the roster rising to his expectations of winning is unreasonable. The Jets have an excellent d line and so do we. Our line significantly outperformed theirs, and I think we are more middle of the pack in olines league wide.

Considering where we were going into the 2020 off season, and combining the fact that we are doing this with limited cap space, I think we have made some fantastic lemonade with the lemons Hurney left us.

Slater wouldn't have been a reach. By most accounts he was 1B to Sewell's 1A in the draft and considered on a higher level than the other OT prospects.

He was a reach in the eyes of our football guys who get paid make decisions.

End of story.

Disagree all you want.

I’m not sure 2 games counts as statistically compelling.

Even with all of the pressure that Tampa bay got on Mahomes  he was still often able to buy time and get good passes off, just so happened his receivers were still covered.

How about the majority of the seasons Cam was here? Did you forget why his injuries started piling up in the place first?

The argument against this is mind blowing.

For the record i have no issue with them taking Horn. It was AFTER they took him when they said they didnt value in other linemen in the draft that much and took other players. And the guys they did take are on the bench because supposedly are not better than the trash they signed in FA.
