Subjective but if you have missy, OutKast and good lord the white stripes in your top 10 it’s pretty much garbage…imo.

Rolling Stone has always had a mammoth hard on for the White Stripes that can be seen from space.  In one of their greatest guitarists lists they had Jack White in like the top 20.  As in greatest of all time, over guys like Eddie Van Halen and others who pushed the instrument in new directions in rock music.

I mean yeah I remember in 2002 when The White Stripes were different from Hoobastank and Creed and whatever other bullshit was on the radio.  That was cool at the time, and their indie albums before that had been critical favorites.  They did go on to make some legitimately great albums; Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan are both strong records just viewed on their own.  They're kind of like Nirvana I guess in the sense that what they were doing was definitely good but it wasn't like they invented that type of music, they happened to be in the right place at the right time when lightning struck.

"It Might Get Loud" with Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. I saw the movie a few years ago and still wonder how, of all the guitarists to choose from, Jack White was selected?

The guy who'd share his TB season tix with me for the CARvTB games every year (pour a drink out for him this season 😞 ) was lucky enough to meet Jack and Meg backstage at a White Stripes show about this same timeframe.

He said that Jack and Meg were the nicest people, but had one very strict rule: we'll sign whatever you want, we'll talk about whatever you want --- but no video/photos *until we say* you can take photos, then feel free to take those video/photos.

They had a very specific image to portray at the time, and were quite insistent that they looked the part while representing the band visually.

That's a whole lot better than bands that refuse to participate in any fan/promotion activity, or have incredibly complicated hoops to jump through that it's not worth the effort.

Yeah I think it would have been more interesting if they had gone way out in left field and brought in somebody like Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth.  Diddling and plagiarism accusations aside, Page is a titan and needs no introduction.  The Edge isn't a virtuoso but he's an innovator with his own distinct style and sound.  The whole dotted 8ths thing with an analog delay pedal that you hear everywhere is his doing.  Jack White is mainly known for playing some janky slide on pawn shop guitars.  I mean that's cool and all but not revolutionary.

Haha that was when they were doing the whole "are we siblings?  it's a mysteryyyyyy!" thing wasn't it.  Yeah they always had a certain look and aesthetic about them during that time.  It figures.

I've heard stories about Jack White freaking out and confronting people in Nashville because they made eye contact with him in public places and poo.  Who knows if that's true but he's been a celebrity for like 20 years now and he might just be fed up with it.

Definitely not the experience my buddy relayed.  Times must have changed
