I'm pretty sure both CMC and Horns injuries are due to new field

Yes but the wear and tear factor of artificial turf can't be ignored. Both were non contact injuries coming from two weeks on turf. Not to mention multiple groin pulls as well which are minor but are also non contact injuries.

If 2 games constitute wear and tear among nfl players, you’d see players dropping left and right all across the league.

injuries happen.  It’s not because of the field.  It’s because both players play an extreme sport where injuries happen.

You practice on the surface you Play on that week typically.

We had turf in college. But if we were going away to a grass field we would practice on the grass practice field that week.

Is that also true at the pro level? I genuinely don't know, but I can see teams wanting to keep their stadium fields that will be on tv and seen by 60k fans in the stands as pristine as possible.

You could make an easier case that years of running and making quick cuts and stops in cleats possibly created a bunch of microfractures in Jaycee's feet. It was just a matter of time before these took enough stress to give out. It's not exciting but it happens to a lot of top tier athletes. It even hit Michael Jordan and may have led to the end of his career (and probably Greg Olsen's too). Hopefully Horn will heal quickly and completely.

On CMC, you've got a case where a guy's work out gains have been massive in recent years and even though he is as physically fit as you can imagine a human to be, the muscles might have exceeded the tendon loads. Basically, the guy fell victim to his own swoleness. Luckily, it doesn't seem that severe right now, so some rest and rehab should get him back out there.

A guy CMC's size wasn't built to have Earl Campbell thighs. And yet there he was, killing it.

You typically have multiple practice fields

If your stadium is grass you have an identical practice field that's grass.

If your stadium is turf you have an identical practice field that's turf.

If your stadium is grass you will also have a turf practice field for away games.

But it would be stupid to practice on grass at home all week if your home stadium is field turf. Everything will feel different on game day that way.

It would be like practicing on Bermuda greens for the two weeks leading up to the Masters Everything will feel off.
