Are PFF grades weighted in someway?  Here's an example of what I mean.  Olineman A allowed X, Y, and Z pressures, QB hits, and sacks from Dlineman A. BUT Dlineman A has a mediocre grade so all those pressures, QB hits, and sacks weigh more than if they had came from Aaron Donald.  We'd expect to give up pressures to an elite guy but not so much a random scrub.

If that is what is going on, then if your grades for the players are wrong, then your weights are wrong and thus your grades for your players are wrong.

Another thing to understand about PFF is that they don't know assignments. They are just guessing who they think should be blocking which defender. For example, Paradis' job may be to pass off the DT to Daley in order to pick up a blitz. If Daley doesn't play his assignment correctly and that DT sacks Sam, they are going to grade Paradis poorly because it looks like he lost his block. They have no way of knowing his assignment was to pass the DT off. The only people that actually know what's happening with our line are the coaches and players. Obviously we can tell that they have major problems and look like dog poo, but we don't have the same understanding as the coaches as to what is going on. PFF doesn't either. Those grades are fine, but they aren't super reputable or anything I'd take as having complete accuracy.

Moton needs to play better. We don't need him turning into paid Trai Turner.

I would venture to guess his play is more a reflection of, or more adequately put, a result of his supporting cast around him.

More specifically, he's the prettiest turd among the pile of turds in the punch bowl.

Yes.  And double teams, which happen every play, are hard to account for as well. Paradis spent the jets game double teaming with Daley while Elflien was left on an island with QWilliams,  the jets best D linemen, essentially, their Derrick Brown, but with better stats.

In the end, PFF scores for that Jets oline are not in sync with the jets performance.  It just isn't.  There is no way  to sugar coat it.  Anyone watching the 5 sack shutout/beat down Bronco game last Sunday with Wilson running for his life cannot stand there and tell me that the run blocking was pretty good.  NO IT WASN'T.  They couldn't run the ball either.

The jets OL pff scores should not be higher than ours.  They just shouldn't.  I know it.  The NFL knows it.  Jets fans know it.  Zach Wilson knows it...and we should know it.

That's not one game.  That's thru three games.  Van Roten's score is currently 53.9 on pff.

Meanwhile the Jets have the HIGHEST PRESSURE% in the the league and lead the league in sacks with FIFTEEN.  Their ybc is mediocre at 2.6 so the run blocking is NOWHERE near where it needs to be to raise the overall score.  They're 28th in rushing yards and 29th in rushing attempts.  So how can the run grade raise their overall grade so much when they aren't running the ball and when they finally do, its nothing special.

Did I mention that Wilson has been sacked 15 times?  At that rate, Wilson will be sacked 85 times this season.

So please explain to me @AU-panther,  how does the Jets entire line score above 50 when they so clearly TOTALLY suck on the field in STATS and via the eye test?

I realize that tweet was over three games, my response was you are probably judging AVT based on the one game you saw, you probably didnt' even watch the other two games.

Speaking of AVT, what is his pass rush grade?  You keep dodging that point because it goes against the narrative of what you are trying to spread.  They actually agree with you that he is bad.

In regards to their rushing grade, their actual YPC for their RBs is around 3.8 which is higher than ours.  The number you are quoting is probably including sacks.  So does that mean their O-line is blocking better than ours or is CMC overated?

Speaking of sacks how many of those are Wilson's fault?  How quickly is Wilson getting the ball out?  Sam and the play calling is helping our line tremendously.

We've gone over all of this before.  What about the TEs?  What is their pass block and run block grade?  How often do they run 2 TE sets?  All of this factors in.

Also scoring above 50 doesn't mean PFF thinks they are playing well.

I don't know AVT's run grades.  I don't pay PFF.  Look up you're own stats.  I looked mine up.

In the end. It.  Doesn't. Matter.   AVT is not a 62.5.  He isn't.  You can defend PFF and the jets OL all you want.  You will never convince me that AVT is a 62.5 or Fant is playing out of his mind at 69.2 or McCovern is a 68.

No.  No they don't.  He is 48.5 bad, not 62.5 bad.  Someone on that line has to be in the 40s, but amazingly NO ONE IS.  How is this possible?  The worst performing line in the league has all average lineman?

Sigh.  If PFF puts it on Wilson, then HIS PFF grade should be in the 40s, but its not.

A 40's PFF grade is required somewhere on the jets OL or Wilson.  There isn't one.

You ask all of these stat questions, which can easily be looked up.

You have provided ZERO links to make your case that the jets OL scores are legit.  Instead you stated a ybc  number but no link to it.

Sorry.  At this point you're just making up sht.  I'm done here.

Ignore on.  You can rant to the void.

We drafted 2 olinemen. Sewell would have been our pick but the lions took him at 8. The other tackles were further down our board and not worth it at 8. We put an emphasis on defense and its obviously paying off. Cant fix everything in one offseason. Rhule, Fitterer and Morgan know we have to upgrade our offensive line and I have never trusted a front office more than this one. Things will get fixed

Patience is not very common in these parts.

Lol

That's yards before contact per carry.  That is how many yards the RB gets before getting hit, often a good measure of an O-line.  They are actually 13th in the league, which is good.  Where are we on that list?  31st which is terrible.

If you look at YPC they are 3.9, we are 3.5.

2021 NFL Standings & Team Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

and I already listed just the RB stats.

Not Panthers related, but PFF graded Hurts at 69.5 and Dak at 68.5 on Monday Night Football last night. Anyone that watched that game and has a half functioning brain watched Dak control that game for 60 minutes (other than the egregious fumble), while Hurts didn’t look like a serviceable NFL starter for most the game. Dak’s QB rating was 143.3 to Hurts 86.0. I’m not sure how that grading from PFF is defensible in any way.

I know nowa days it’s edgy and easy to bitch and point out flaws, but can everyone complaining about PFF please provide your metrics and why it’s valid and then inform us of how the Panthers oline stacks up?

I know it’s a lot to ask for substance, but I think it’s important.

Also we need metrics with 0 flaws or subjectivity please. Serious request.

    • This is a two-part quiz that takes 5 minutes to take--if you need modification, they are available. Once you submit the answers to the first 2 questions (3 total answers) you take the USA Today online NFL Draft Quiz.  Complete the template below in your response.  Later tonight (after 8 pm), I will share the answers to the first two questions--please do not share your results until after 8 PM.  Obviously, if you choose not to participate, just don't participate and leave the replies for those who want to do this. (Honor system--Googling is CHEATING) 1.  Franchises with the most #1 picks in NFL History (2 are correct), so this counts as 2 points, 1 for each correct answer:  a) Bucs b) Jets c) Colts d) Rams e) Oilers/Titans 2.  How many #1 overall picks for the teams above were the most in NFL history? a) 3 b) 5 c) 6 d) 7 e) 9 OK for the next 10 questions, go to the link and take the 10 question online quiz.  Report your answers for the 2 questions above and the number correct from your online quiz. https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2021/11/01/nfl-draft-history-trivia-quiz/ SCALE:  12-13 correct:   Draft Royalty - you probably cheated though. 10-11  correct:  Stud.  Your brain is full of useless information. 8-9  correct:  Mr. or Mrs. Mediocre, which has probably been your goal for some time. 6-7  correct:  Snorkeler:  You can't quite reach the surface of the NFL knowledge pool, but you are close. 4-5  correct:  Life Support Recipient.  The people around you are Huddlers voting when to pull the plug.  0-3 correct:  Blue Tent Dweller.  You scored below random chance, meaning a toddler or monkey could have done better.  Stay in the blue tent.  The team is doing well without your input.   There is a non-monetary reward and consequence for being the top and low score.  All in fun.
