Panthers trade for Gilmore

anyone else expect this to fall flat on its face? Reminds me of the Eric Reid signing, which he never met expectations. Much like CJ getting torched on Sunday, just because it looks good on paper/Madden, doesn't mean it works out. We still can't protect our QB and we still got exposed against the run.

I never thought the Reid signing would be great. He wasn’t that great with 49ers.

6th round pick for a half year rental.  No clue on what the long term plan is, but the team thinks that they can when this year and I'm here for it.

And the way he can help bring our young guys up to speed. Can't say he didn't help the Patriots CB JC Jackson.

I think that means Belichick was asking for more then finally came back and "fine we'll take the 2023 6th"

That's kinda the point.

Belichick doesn't generally get talked into taking less. He doesn't like backing down from his asking price, and more often than not, people negotiating with him wind up getting the short end of the stick.

If Fitterer successfully outnegotiated Belichick, that's...something

You don't understand how football works.

Apparently you don't. Free safety's backup into coverage. Strong safeties stay closer to the box. It's why Chinn is struggling right now at FS. Also you haven't noticed how Jackson's tackling ability has improved. Don't be an idiot.

Only under contract for the rest of this year...  Will be interesting to see if he stays beyond that.

That’s perfect. If we are being smart, you use him for this year as Horn recovers and CJ gets up to speed. Then you let him go to the biggest bidder and turn your 6th round investment into a compensatory 3rd. Seattle has a history of getting comp picks (#8 from 1995 to 2019, Ravens far and away #1, Packers #2, Pats #3, Steelers #5). Panthers 7th from the bottom.

Bottom line is we pay the majority of a $5.4M salary for 2021 and if we play our cards right, we get a comp 3rd for an investment of a 6th. Gilmore will be very happy to show his talents to get the big deal after this year.

What about Hartsfield, when is he coming back. Doesn’t he play safety too, be nice to get someone back there, Franklin yikes he looked terrible.

Hartsfield is on IR so he’ll miss 8 games minimum. Yes he can play that hybrid role.

If this is true then this is a big win and I'm all in.

See my post just above. It’s a great replacement for Horn and we should be looking at a 3rd round comp as trade for the 6th we used. After getting CJ, having Horn and a way cheaper Donte, it sure seems like this is our plan.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Breer is saying that Fitterer talked down Belichick 😳

How often have the Patriots bamboozled other teams with trades? Wish we knew they originally wanted.

I'm on the fence with this trade. Not so much the cost but on whether this move will noticably improve us. Getting all the corners won't matter if teams are able to repeat what the Cowboys did to us.
