Sam’s day and the OL

First off this is Not a defend Sam thread.    He did not have a good game At All.

but Not Watson

 Not Fields

Not Herbert

Not even Mahomes would have won this for us today

everyone always emphasizes the importance of a LT.

but you ask any Coach or any QB what’s the easiest ways to shut down a QB and a offense.  It’s pressure right up the middle.

the only times in history TB12 has looked mortal?  Defensive pressure up the middle (see Giants Super Bowl wins)

the interior OL was mortifying today.  It looked like a HS kid going up against a NFL DT.  Looked dangerous at times the way they were being Flung around.  No exaggeration at times, a sled would have been more efficient because they would have slowed them down.
this team isn’t going to go anywhere until Miller/Paradis/Daley get replaced/fixed

Nah...one of those guys would have one this game. But that's not a slight to Darnold, he just needs everything great around him to be productive and he doesn't have that. He is just not that guy...but the staff should have known this instead of throwing him in this situation after a couple years already in the league. He is not that far from being completely damaged goods and they ignored it.

Believe all three would have won this game. Eventhough the OL played bad, he still had time to hit the open receivers. He chooses to stare down DJ and force throws. Even when he holds on to the ball he still stare down the target. His ball placement is bad also. But I don't fully blame him for this game. Brady and Rule need to be held accountable. Their game plan and management is very poor. No half time adjustments, use of personal, and poor situational decisions.

He was being flushed the second the ball hit his hands. And staring down guys.  He didn’t even have time to do that.  Dude had OL being literally thrown into his lap like projectiles off the snap.  Those with All-22 and can clip some gifs out of it are going to show some eye popping clips.

McCaffrey is the best remedy for a porous offensive line. Darnold can quickly run through his reads and if no one looks open in the first 2 seconds, he can dump it off to McCaffrey for a minimum 5 yard gain. Plus he keeps the defense on its toes and diverts attention away from the receivers. Instead, the defense can devote 2 guys to Moore, thus Sam struggles to find anyone open, and after holding the ball for 2.5 seconds, he's got 2 defenders in his face. Hopefully McCaffrey is back next week because this team that can only put up 18 points against a weak Eagles defense isn't going to cut it.

When the QB has a guy in his face about every other snap.  And knows there’s about a 50/50 chance every play he’s going to get drilled by the some guy up the middle about the second the ball hits his hands or he will have to run for his life.  Any QB will begin to ravel.  Brady, Watson, Mahomes included

This is Darnold in a nutshell. You have to build an outstanding on every level mega team, a once a decade loaded roster, to DRAG Darnold to the playoffs and possibly the SB. He's an anchor dragging at the bottom of the ocean and you have to pull him along.

I don't put any faith in waiting for a "one shining moment" mega team. It can happen, but why in hell would that be the blueprint. We need a QB who elevates the rest of the team and can take over by consistently making plays.

Some QBs are more comfortable than others.  Sam historically hasn’t been as comfortable in that aspect as elite guys such as Brady.

But none of them are ever comfortable when it gets to a certain extent.  If you go look at every QB historically including Brady.  Their worst games were when they had terrible protection up the middle.  We gave up that at a historic rate today.  The man was just set up for failure

Our O-line is bad . You can count on Miller for a least 2 holding penalties per game usually on 3rd down putting us in a bad spot . Darnald is an ok qb but he needs time that our line does not allow .  We need CMC back just to give Sam an outlet .
