I know you don't want to hear it but if you aren't going to pay D. Jackson top 5 CB money then you need to trade him

I mean yeah, him blowing up in contract year is such a Donte Jackson move, I think we all saw this coming lol. But i love the way he's playing and am strongly considering keeping him to cover fast dudes bc no team in the league has four solid corners. If these dudes all work out that's an edge no other team has and is the kind of forward thinking thing that has made this franchise interesting the past few months.

Jaycee in the slot with Donte and Stephon on the outside in man, with CJ Henderson here and there in the wings is a good call.

Panthers are gonna have cap room. Donte is like 25, which is still young as hell, Panthers can offer him a three year deal (Reddick too) before a lot of current contracts expire and we have to pay Burns etc. He'll be able to test the market again when he's 28, and team has to make a decision on Horn and Henderson. Win-win. They can keep Reddick three more years too.

It'd be nice to get a competent interior lineman for DJ, but I expect that's not happening. I could see the Panthers getting a 3rd round pick, potentially a 2nd for him.

Lots of teams would love to have a young, fast, potential #1 CB on their team going into the second half of the season. At the end of the year, they could tag him or extend him and would have plenty of time to do so. If they are a playoff team, giving up a late 2nd or 3rd wouldn't be much of an ask and it would certainly be worth it to the Panthers as they try to fix the OLine through the draft.

If it’s a playoff team, I’d want a 2nd and 4th/5th for Jackson. Make up the two picks we gave up.

We gave up Arnold and a 3rd for Henderson and Jackson has proven to be a better CB to date. Granted, CJ was a recent top selection.

While I don't disagree with the OP sentiment, the unfortunate fact is that there simply aren't any takers out there.  Think about it this way.

Who would the market be for Donte?  If you aren't interested in the player for this year, you can get him for free next March.  That eliminates pretty much half the league right there.

Further, we just picked up CJ Henderson for a 3rd and Stephon Gilmore for a 6th.  What does that tell you about the market right now for CB's?  There just nothing there.  We bought in a low market, which is what you're supposed to do.

The only way I see that changing is if there is some bizarre series of season ending injuries to starting CB's across the league.

I can argue trading DJAX--You have Horne and CJ Henderson to man the outside CB duties over the next 3 years or so and Jax is not an ideal nickel.  We also have a developing Keith Taylor.  He's gonna want big money and we need to sign Reddick and a few other players like DJ.

    • No room to take two WR's IMO, with Mingo and ISM locked up for next year. We need the center, LB, CB, or edge more.
    • Thielen will be fine if we had two other receivers that drew coverage. He's a 3rd and 4th down chains mover at this point in his career
