I actually think one of the biggest mistakes this coaching staff made this year was not bringing in any competition for Sam. At the very least they should’ve tried to get another young quarterback in to push Sam…for example like Trubisky. PJ is not that guy. Competition is good especially when you don’t have a proven starter.

Rhule has proven he values nepotism over performance. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

A bigger mistake was not drafting Justin Fields. We would not have been good this year, but we would have a rookie getting some experience and our 2nd rd pick next year. Instead we gave up both of those for the guy who was the worst QB in the league for the past three years.

I think Darnold hasn't bottomed out either, its gonna get worse. He will get replaced by PJ at some point.

Probably around Week 10-11, that’s my prediction. Then we’ll lose out with PJ. But you better believe there will still be the PJ Hive saying he’s the future.

Might has well keep him , We ain't getting anyone better to come here. And I am saying that has someone who was/is anti-darnold.

For better or worse we are stuck with him, might has well root for the guy. You know there was another Panther QB who had stretches of terrible play, but also flashes of brilliance, he wore #17 and I am not saying Sam is that level yet, but he could be

Man, I don’t think you’re fixing Darnold.

Rhule might have to either sink or swim with Darnold. Unfortunately, I believe he is going to sink.

No way in hell Tepper is giving Rhule a 3rd free agent QB project.

According to some...

...that's not Tepper's call.

the point is the pick

Darnold is being paid $12m a season for two years, that’s peanuts in the scheme of things, especially on this team who isn’t winning anytime soon. hell right now the Panthers have 12m alone sitting and doing nothing

you don’t sign Darnold long term after one year of play

and you don’t give up a second round pick for a one year rental

the argument is losing that second round pick (and preferably drafting Fields)

believe it or not that option money really doesn’t mean much at all future wise, significantly less than the second round pick

will just have to agree to disagree

Both trading a second and then signing him to his 5th year options didn’t have to happen. One could’ve happened without the other. The chances of him bombing were higher than him being good. My dumbass knew that. The fact professionals didn’t is astounding.  I agree we should’ve never made the trade, but when we did we should’ve drafted fields and let them compete without picking up darnolds 5th year option. Shore up the qb position as best as possible. They did go for Stafford so I’ll give them that. But yea agree to disagree. Should’ve just been a flyer on Darnold and bringing in others to compete. Can’t believe we gave up 3 picks for this dude. Unreal.

This is year 4 and Darnold has never been considered a top 25 NFL QB, and his stats this season suggest the same. He is definitely gone if he doesn't turn it around by midseason, no way they go into next offseason with this. You have to be kidding yourself if you think the best coaches in the league could turn Darnold into an elite QB and that this is a coordinator/coaching problem. McVay would have shipped Darnold out faster than he did Goff. I honestly think Darnold would be inaccurate if he played opposing defenses with no d-lineman on the field, he is very skiddish and not confident in his throws at all. It's a shame because he has size and phyiscal talent. His brain needs replaced maybe Drew Brees can lend him his.

He is 24 and has all the tools to be good so he gets another year.

Exact same was true 2 years ago.

Realistically what other options at QB are there???

Going forward, good question.  In hindsight, lots...

Watson will sit in purgatory it looks like.

If he plays again will be for the Texans.

Rogers would never ever come here.

Sam is like a used car, you get your child for their first car.

Unfortunately the previous owner did much more damage.

Could've had a brand new car at a great deal unfortunately, got greedy wanted the used car with fancy gadgets that break easy.

Now we have a BMW sitting with less than 5k and well... Fitterer going want to take it out for a test drive soon.

Rhule would get 4 years with Fields, dunno if he'll get more than next year with Darnold at this point

You finally nailed one. it.

You get ur option of Fitz, Foles, Trubisky, or start a rookie that you draft instead of taking the best O-lineman to once again play behind a horrible line. These coaches are fuged if Sam doesn't work out
