When did you give up on Matt Rhule?

Plenty of teams have moved on from coaches after two years….

you could start with looking at the list of college HCs that for NFL jobs.

And those teams kept sucking usually and don't get the right coach until years later.. While teams with patience and consistency usually give more then a year and half...

This is getting crazy.. Didn't everybody here understood this wasn't going to be pretty year 2.. This is still a rebuilding year right?? How many of you thought this was a finished team??

3 years.. Like most teams normally do...

Again if we would have fired ROn in the middle of year 2.. How would that have worked out.. 2 coach of the year season not here..

Ron had a plan though. Regardless of what you think of it.   He drafted a uber talented QB.  It was clear he was in the process of building something AND was doing something the league really hadn’t seen on O.   There were definitely year 2 struggles but there at least was a clear plan.  Develop Newton.  Bring the RPO zone read to the NFL and make it work.

Rhule just looks lost.

I’m not taking any side in this debate, but as someone who always defended Rivera and think he got too much criticism at times… I think you’re giving him way too much credit for that “plan.” Any HC who drafted Cam would have implemented a lot of zone read option looks.

Generally teams show patience with guys that give them a reason to show it.   So the Bucs should of stayed with Greg Schiano….just because.

and in the world of just coaches and general, Jim Mora had a 5 year deal with Seattle.  They fired him rightfully after one season…. that worked out pretty well for Seattle.

If someone clearly isn’t the guy? Yeah, you should just move on.

I swear this is turning into Revisionist history..

No body saw the plan when Nakmara gave up that TD to Atlanta and ppl wanted Ron to stay in Atlanta...

Nobody was talking about When Buffalo beat us on a 80 yards td drive by Ej Manuel...

If this is the new Standard I guess we got 8 years of hiring and firing coaches when they aren't good halfway thru their 2nd season..

well, the zone read wasn’t invented by Auburn.  Ron was the first to legitimize it.  I think he gets at least some credit for that.  And the gamble on Cam.  Which it was.  Cal was only viewed as the #1 player in the draft once Ron made it clear he likely was going to take that gamble IMO.

Another good example of a team with no patience and took them years to get the coaching hire thing right..

I mean the Cam plan isn’t revisionist history.    First thing he did was draft a talented QB and at least offensively….it was about building something that just hasn’t been seen.  Ron had that.  As I said earlier, think of it however you want.  Lot thought it was a poor plan by year two but it was a something to point to.

which Rhule doesn’t have.

Seattle fired Jim Mora after one year (5 year deal) and a mini dynasty was born after that.

So your argument is the Bucs should of shown more patience with Greg Schiano and company?  lol.  Why? He was a train wreck.  They kept moving on from bad people…..and now will be contending at least for back to back Super Bowl rings.

    • One thing this got me thinking, is if Canales got some of the best seasons out of Baker/Geno/etc, how long before Tepper asks him his true assessment of Bryce? Obviously it has to be sometime during or after camp once pads are on
    • Here is the bottom line---if you assume that the offense was bad because Young was bad, then that position is understandable.  If you assume Young was bad because the offense was bad, that is understandable.   Personally, I think Bryce will improve a lot in 2024.   There just aren't too many rookie (or veteran) QBs who would have done well under these circumstances....full stop.  I have NEVER heard so many different experts (game announces throughout the season) analysis experts, talk so much about a team's receivers not getting separation.  Experts know how important this is because the qb has about a second to get the ball in that window--we did not have any windows.  Furthermore, we had 7 different LGs and 8 different RGs.  62 sacks, most up the middle.  So he had people in his face with no open receivers.  And people are saying, Bryce sucks!!  My question is this:  What is he supposed to do?  Make sure his plant foot is secure and he is holding the ball to his ear?
    • I mean we can't really discuss WR's or Centers or whatever without mentioning the QB situation. Not sure what the optimists are grasping at. He was incognito all offseason except for a couple celebrity camp/youth camp appearances. Thielen was in the weight room every time they put out any footage inside the building. I think being the number 1 pick and QB1 comes with more weight than just showing up a day before voluntary workouts, no pun intended. If Cam had done the bare minimum imagine how much he would have been killed on here
