How much is too much for a dog?

A lot of posts on Facebook popping up about people looking to rehome their dogs.  I guess they needed companion during COVID but with everything reopening they no longer need them.  This is the real problem.

They'll probably be the same people to get their kids a new puppy for Christmas

Most shelters are over capacity right now.

It shouldn't surprise anyone. A lot of people are just pieces of poo who waste good oxygen.

I have a feeling the dog I posted in this forum needing a new home is from a similar situation. Pretty sure they had an older dog who recently passed and they immediately got this one- probably way too soon before they were ready.

But, while we can talk about it all day, the fact of the matter is the dog needs a new home and I'll do whatever it takes to help find one, regardless of what I may think about the owners.

Anytime someone gets shot, the media claims it's an AR or a Glock.

Case in point.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/capitol-riot-suspect-wife-were-111434519.html

"During the search of Kenyon's car, deputies found an AR-15 rifle and a Glock handgun, KOLO reported."

Had there been a dog there there's a 100% chance it would've been called a pit bull in this article.

I'm here as well. I've had dogs my entire life and I have two older dogs currently. I love them very much but once they pass I plan to stay pet free for a good long while.

I hear you. I am older than most of you guys and it worries me to think my dogs may outlive me (2) and I wonder about their future. No one else in my family to take care of them.

Find a local rescue group that you like and trust. Talk to them. I bet they'd have no issue having you will your dogs to them in the event of your passing giving you peace of mind that your four legged companions will be well taken care of if that were to happen.

Going back to the original question about cost...I paid $1,200 for my dog back in 2013.  After that experience I think I'd be willing to go up to $1,600 for a special situation (whatever that might be at the time).

I only did that because my chick at the time was highly allergic to dogs, but for whatever reason that particular animal worked for her.  These days I'd probably pick up one of the many dogs available by other means who are waiting for a good home (like the rescues discussed here).
