Missing a true deep threat.

it's hard to say I think because of the flux in the offense. Darnold balls out 3-4 games. Darnold poops the bed and gets reckless the next few. Receivers can't catch anymore. Then Darnold no longer the #1 and now we have Cam who doesn't know the playbook. It's like day, night, day -- the offense keeps changing due to the execution on the field and the QB change.

Brady does need to add in play action. We did 0 play action passes on sunday. With the way McCaffery was getting yards on the ground, play action could have tore that defense up.

Our playbook was limited before Darnold started to suck, tho.  It's why the Cowboys pointed out for the world how they knew our routes... Which the eagles capitalized on.

I thought that meant Darnold didn't know the offense well enough for variable calls but man it looks the same no matter who we have at QB in that regard.  Teams just know our plays...

It seems like Rhule wants a run heavy offense and play action deep shots.

if that were true....wouldn't our offense at least in 1.5 years attempted a pretty fair share of deep shots?

I think Rhule simply wants conservative offense and to play defense.  The worst type of football.

I think Rhule understands that based on our offensive limitations e.g. below average OL, shaky QB situation, etc., playing a conservative style offense is our best chance to win this year. We weren’t nearly as conservative last year and once these issues get addressed, we should get back to a pro style offense. JMO

we have deep threats, they just don't have enough time to run their routes before QB gets pressured.

Running 5-10 more yards while the ball is in the air is splitting hairs with the QB waiting for you to turn around on your comeback route. We don't need Ted Ginn deep, just throw the ball 20-30 yards occasionally

well, a conservative O paired with a D built to play with a lead.....isn't going to beat anyone worth beating.

DJ led the league in contested catches made over 20+ yards last season with poor QB play.  He also has led in numerous other statistics for receivers and 20+yard catches downfield at various points over the last few years.  Robby was viewed as, and excelled as a deep threat specialist in his time in New York.  If I'm not mistaken, TMJ was a pretty good deep ball guy in college.

We have deep threats.  What we don't have is an offensive philosophy that utilizes them or encourages and enables the QB to use them at that depth.

Joe Brady sucks.
