For those who can't listen:

  • Process is only 25% working
  • Defense is regressing
    • must be frustrated with the offensive incompetence
  • Believes Sam Darnold played better than Cam last game
    • Said team has some semblance of passing offense when he's in, but has no trust in the line.
    • Much more skittish than Cam, doesn't know when to eat it and take the L on the play.
    • Both aren't playing quality football but it's better for the team moving forward if Sam actually plays and plays well.
  • What does Sam have to do in order to be the QB going into next year no questions asked?
    • Can't really evaluate Sam because the line is so horrible.
    • BC played decent but would he have played if Daley or erving were available?
    • OL is a systemic problem that needs to be fixed
    • Sam needs to not turn the ball over, Get a 300 yd passing game
    • Sam will never be a long term solution now
  • How many Lineman do the panthers need to find in order to fix the OL?
    • 3 new starters - LT, C, and one decent guard.
    • Clean slate wouldn't be bad either (minus moton)
    • Good teams with good lines have good line coaches. Need a new one who doesn't suck.
  • Three areas of weakness of D - 3rd down defense, run defense, red zone defense
    • Panthers need to get bigger up front.
    • Aren't built to take on run first teams
    • Need to get more versatile in that regard.
    • Went the college route of building quicker line instead of more stout line and got bitten by it
  • Would it make sense to move on from Matt Rhule?
    • It would make sense.
    • Rhule teams have no momentum at the end of each first two years.
    • Shows teams aren't getting better throughout the year.
    • Doesn't think he will get fired though.
    • Said if he does stay then his power will be neutered.

Spot on

I just don't get the thinking of keep Rhule around, but take away his control/power of everything. Can't put that toothpaste back in the tube and it work IMO.

Only two ways that ends. One, with an angry Rhule watching Twitter every night to see what college jobs are opening in October as he's mentally checked out.  Two, Rhule having no control, being overridden on decisions about coaches even, and then it's a matter of..."so, what do you do here?"

Cut your losses and fire the bum before wasting another year.

I just think coaching at the college level and coaching at the NFL level is very different. Kids vs. men. Very limited time with your players vs. pros working long hours and the resulting schematic complexities that comes with that. Massive roster vs. minimal roster. Huge talent variances vs. every team is made up of the best football players in the world.

Rhule and his staff just don't have the necessary NFL experience. Maybe Rhule could've had a chance if he'd assembled a legit NFL staff and allowed a real NFL GM to handle roster building duties but he was smarter than everyone else. He wanted to do it HIS way. Well, we're witnessing the results.

Why would anyone ever would think he had the required skills is beyond me. I know there was slim pickings when we were looking for a coach but Rhule was 100% fluff. It would have been different if he rebuilt a team that was a D1 powerhouse years ago but he didn't. He had moderate success with small college teams. Now I have no doubt if he had moderate success this year he would have left for a well paying college team. That's why he was going all out this year to win by thanksgiving.

Seriously, change all that out and he's still going to be burning all three timeouts halfway through each half. If you want a puppet at least get someone likeable/former NFL player like Dan Campbell. Even Saleh, at least he doesn't sound like a chipmunk

I am against firing a guy after two years in most circumstances, but we need to just cut bait here and move on. Let Fitterer find his guy and give Fitt personnel control. Rhule can't make enough changes to make this work. It is obvious his circle of coaching contacts is too small and too tight-knit. No one worth a damn is going to be willing to take a one-year dead end OC job. Rhule should have loaded this staff with NFL coaching experience. Instead his hires were 75-80% his college coaching buddies.

Keeping Rhule next year only to fire him midseason when the same garbage occurs again isn't really a win, because we'd still be trotting out our interim HC from the same staff he put together. It's better to let him go now/this off-season and start over. For the most part, Fitterer has provided the team some pretty good players but the coaching staff coach them right/or see that a rookie with t-rex arms is clearly better than a "proven" vet.

    • It makes sense. It needs to fit the need. I am ignoring subtlety, but you don’t hire a heavy metal band for a church picnic. I hope.  Fitting needs has been a fuging problem with all the yearly changes in HC, DC, OC, they need to settle that down.
    • For one thing, do you guys think we are gonna be some shootout survivors? Or do you think we still need to limit the other offense?  And why don’t we let the new management decide who is in play at WR, that is here already? I expect a WR to be taken. I still hold to the idea that our QB doesn’t recognize or can’t execute NFL open. It is an issue he needs to get straight. But, I get it and have no issue with 33 or 39 being WR.  If later on we think we can make a great bet on a guy that was overlooked, fine.  But let’s don’t pretend the defense doesn’t need to get buttoned up and if there is a top talent, deal with it.
