Andy Dalton WAS better than Sam Darnold earlier in his career but at this point they both suck balls

And Dalton folded in every wildcard trip, I'm over these prototypical mid ceiling game managers. Dunno how anyone could watch that Chiefs/Bills game and be excited about drafting Pickett thinking there is any way he could hang against either of those dudes

I hope If we draft Pickett the first question a reporter asks is why they picked a guy with way below average hand size that can’t be overcome by technique but passed on slater because he has shorter arms that can be overcome by technique and just made 2nd team all pro.

fair question

Something I didn't realize his hands are reportedly 8 inches.

That's not just below average, that may be the smallest  in prospect history and by a large margin.  I think there have been some in the high 8s but they're usually panned if they're low 9s for ball grip (I.E. Burrow).  That seems like a measurable if any, I imagine some teams may exclude him from their boards due to.

He'll have NFL balls at his pro day.  So I imagine teams will be looking if that affects his throwing but it was mentioned in the other thread, holding onto the ball under duress then become an issue.  Particular because his footwork can get sloppy in those moments, the grip can only be so good at that length.

Now that measurable is one that's harder to make up for versus arm length at LT.  His hand is 1/3.5ths of the circumference of the NFL ball.

Interesting to say the least.

I'll be shocked if his hands are only 8". I measures mine out of curiosity and they're just a shade under 9" and I would definitely struggle throwing a wet football.

It's the potential of the unknown. Pickett made a big jump just like Joe Burrow. We don't know if Pickett can play in the NFL yet. We certainly do know that Darnold cannot.

I wonder if it's a rumor blown out of proportion.  Maybe he's like slightly under 9/around 8.75ish.  I've considered myself fairly average 5'9 175 and just measured with the ruler, they're around 8.25 and I have never felt that comfortable with the football. I'd be surprised if they're really that small.  Plenty of dudes in the league are in the 7s but none are handlers of the ball.  Very rarely.

So why the gloves then?

Learned something new about my 39 year old body today. My left (non-dominant) hand is significantly bigger than my right hand. My right hand is a tad under 9". Call it 8 7/8s. My left hand is almost 9 1/4". I should've been left handed. 😂

I really doubt anyone has 7's. Are you measuring thumb to pinky and not wrist to middle finger? Even the smaller WR's usually are low 9's. Michael Vick is basically the most successful QB with 8.5" hands, had lots of fumbles but also lots of runs. Plenty of pocket fumbles though, guys just swiping at the ball

The rumor I’ve heard and what I think his agent put out is that he’s “double jointed in his thumb” so it doesn’t matter. That’s even more suspect to me lol

    • Ok, time will tell. I believe he will be worse than Howell turned out. All you Heel fan boys were convinced Howell was the next superstar QB in the league.
    • Your weight, like you and your family, is an important part of your life. Just like you, it needs to be maintained properly. You need to research what you can do to lose weight and then, find the best plan that you and your doctor can decide is right for you. These tips below can help you with that. An important part of weight loss is eating in moderation. This doesn't just mean cutting down on the food you eat. It also means reminding yourself that even treats are acceptable in moderation. A single calorie splurge, such as some French fries or a bowl of ice cream, doesn't mean you've failed. Chew your meals slowly to ensure you don't overeat at mealtimes. This promotes weight loss by taking advantage of the natural timing of the digestive process. It takes several minutes for your brain to catch up to your stomach, making it easy to unintentionally eat past the point of fullness.
