I listened to Kyle Bailey talk after he had Fitterer on the show yesterday. Fitterer said they have to set the edges better next year to stop the run, and they need bigger guys. So he said he thinks one will be gone, it sounded from Kyle and the other guy talking they would keep Reddick. They was saying how Burns always gets to far up the field and whiffs on a lot of tackles. I agree I would resign Reddick and see what I could get for Burns. I don’t see how he made pro bowl over Reddick honestly. What do y’all think?

I agree with the assessment. Burns does get to far up field at times and does whiff a lot

I agree. Burns is a huge liability in the run game. He’s going to be an extremely explosive situational pass rusher on a different team. Burns is going to have a long career in the NFL if he’s managed correctly. The Panthers don’t have the personnel to support him.

As great a pass rusher as Burns is, he's been here three years now.  He's still making the same mistakes.  Over-running the quarterback.  Missing tackles in the backfield.  I'm afraid all he's ever going to be is a pass rush specialist.

While those guys are valuable, they are a luxury.

He's also under contract for another season and a 5th year option after.

Ima need a first, second and third for Burns, maybe a little more.

As I said in another thread. Trade back into 3rd and draft Drake Jackson out of USC. He reminds me of Burns mixed with YGM. IMO...His ceiling is equals to Burns.

As for which to keep. Reddick is pretty much a finished product. His production fell as the season went on but he's still a nightmare.

Both leave much to be desired in the run game at this point. If we plan on keeping both then we should move to a 3-4. I think our personnel matches better that way anymore.

Going to a 3-4 would make Luvu a must sign. I'd also look to bring back Haynes for cheap if possible.

Has Snow ever ran a 3-4 as a base formation is my question.

Trade Burns because the Panthers need  more draft picks and  his trade value will probably never be higher than it presently is.

Plus, Redick said he really wants to stay here and plans on adding 15 or 20 solid pounds, still retain his quickness and be able to stop the run a lot better.

I told y'all last Spring that I wanted Micah Parsons over anyone else. I was told he was lazy, didn't have the work ethic or drive, and that he would flame out. I wanted him at linebacker to boost the middle of the defense to help the back four out. Was told that was TURRIBLE...

Now here he is 1st team All-Pro and we are debating about keeping Brian Burns, when we wouldn't have even had to ask the question and just re-sign him.

Reddick is undersized, it's a moot point to keep him while talking about needing bigger edge defenders. Burns is by far the better player, Reddick's production comes from scheme and Snow putting him in the right positions.

Reddick would be invisible if he didn't have others on the D-line opening it up for him.

it’s off-season time at the huddle again, where the definitive components of a championship team are a plethora of mid round picks and a really great run defense

i would joke that were only a “use a 1st round pick on an interior lineman” away from the trifecta but well we got there early this year

But why?  An edge pass rusher is one of the most important pieces in the NFL.  Burns isn't perfect, but he's absolutely one of the best in the NFL at getting after the QB.  He's 23 years old.  He has so much time in the world to get better seeing as most DEs don't hit their peak until around 26-28.

I could understand trading him for players.  But you don't trade a productive 23 year old DE for draft picks.  You just don't.  And I can't think of any team in recent memory that has done it.  Jared Allen only got traded because of all his off-the-field issues.  And KC continued to suck after, because picks aren't guaranteed.

If you can get a 1 for Burns I would take it. I bet we can't though.

By trading Brian Burns for a 1st, you make another hole on the defense (unless you re-sign Reddick... and why would you re-sign 27 year old Reddick over 23 year old Burns???).

It just doesn't make any sense.  You can't trade away every single player on your team that isn't perfect.  Ya'll are really undervaluing Brian Burns right now.  You 100% do not trade an under-25 year old very good pass rusher for just a 1st.  When is the last time a team did something like that?

He's terrible against the run and is too small to be a 3 down defensive end.
