These folks would miss on Burrow because he doesn't have a cannon arm. They'd miss on Murray because he's too short.

There are very few check every box QB prospects and they go #1 overall when they come along and the team sitting at #1 doesn't even listen to trade offers.

Agree

Also, people don't understand QBs aren't even money bets, you don't have to be right as often.

I've said it before, if Team A spends their next 3 1st round picks on a QB and goes 1/3 and Team B spends their next 3 1st round picks on non-QBs and goes 3/3, Team A is in way better shape and it's not even close, assuming neither team has a good QB to start with.

This 5 win crap only guarantees that we prolong QB purgatory. Just get it over with and have the worst record in 2022 like we should have done the last three years. Take the best quarterback available and pray he's the one.

I would much much rather roll the dice next year and pick a top talent tackle.  We are going to suck next year anyway so the timelines dont really matter

Yup, but you also only find the last busted boxes on the shelf waiting to the last minute on Christmas Eve to buy.  That's this QB draft in a nutshell, there's 2-3 that could-possibly-maybe turn into a franchise QB, but the packing is very questionable.  We waited until the 11th hour and now are desperate.  So do we still take a chance on these noticeably flawed products anyway?

My answer is no.

You're asking the wrong questions.

What you, me or anyone on here believes about any of these QB prospects is completely and utterly irrelevant.  All that matters is what our scouts think, and then, assuming the organization is structured and run in a responsible way, our front office acting on those opinions.

If our scouts look at ANY of these QB prospects and say "This is a franchise QB", it would be irresponsible in the extreme to not draft that guy.  Even the best scouts and evaluators are wrong regarding QB prospects half the time.  Who are we as fans to think we know better?  It's a coin flip man.

Rhule is still here, that won't be too difficult.

You might be right but you can't count on that.  There is alot of parity in the NFL.

Most people agree Miami tried to tank for Tua a few years ago and still drafted 5th.  Tua ended falling, but that doesn't change the fact there are always a lot of bad teams.

Think about this.  If you reverse all of our one score games (the games we won and lost), we go 9-8 and I think make the playoffs.  The difference between winning and losing in the league is small.

Here is where our philosophies probably differ.  I dont think scouts get it wrong per se, I think its all about the situation.  Drop just about any qb into a poo situation and they are going to suck.  How many jet qb failures do you have to see to say hey maybe its the franchise not the player.  There is no way Fields is as bad as he looked this year IMO.  It was a poo show of a coaching staff.   I know its not feasible to every team but the way KC did with pat is picture perfect.  Build the line, have a great mentor teaching and a great coachign staff and simply let him sit to ease the pressure off.

What would mahoomes look like starting his rookie year on a team like the jets?

2020: Burrow, Tua and Herbert...all were considered can't miss prospects.  Yes, 3 is rare, but at least 2 Qbs nearly every draft class.  I have yet to see the praises sung of Corral and Pickett.  Don't get it twisted, these are the only two that have a shot at #6.  Reach isn't a strong enough word to describe Howell and Willis at #6.  Desperate would be more accurate.

Yeah, a guy in Tua coming off a Bo Jackson'd hip was "can't miss". 😆

The 1st QB at 12 this year could have a higher grade than the 5th QB next year at 12.  Ranking is irrelevant, all that matters is grade.

If next years class is so talented they might be gone by the time we pick.  Everyone talks about this past class being so talented but the fact is only 2 of the top 5 were available where we picked.

You can't compare Trevor and Wilson to next years class because they weren't available.

In reality the comparison is more like:

Fields and Jones vs Howell, Corral, Pickett, Willis.  When you look at it like that it doesn't look as different.

Bingo!  I didn't like Fields or Jones.  They will be average QBs.  Jones will likely have a decent career if he stays at New England under Belichick...strictly as a game manager.

That said, we don't have the staff nor structure to coddle a QB like Jones nor develop a guy like Fields.  So you are hoping to draft one of these guys, prey they don't get David Carr'ed and in 2023 when Rhule is fired we can undo the the damage done in the guy's rookie year with a new staff?  Brilliant!!!!

Yes you can.

what that there below is data.  A trend even.  We are going to suck monkey balls next season as long as sam is the qb and rhule is the coach

Rhules first 2 draft picks:  Pick 8.  Pick 6

Sam Darnold first 4 seasons:  Pick 3. Pick 11.  Pick 2. Pick 6
