So if this happens what does Rhule bring of value to the team? This isn't a "program building" move. It's not like Mcvay getting Wade Philips at DC so he could focus on the new offensive ideas he was trying to develop. Rhules just like a micro mini GM/sideline hype man/time out waster?

Didn't he have a ton of personal issues and severely lost the locker room in Washington?

Believe so, but he may have improved in that regard.  Also may not be as much a problem for an OC.

I'm actually surprised because this is the kind of move that could actually save the offense, although I expect it won't happen (him taking the job or being able to rehab the shitstain we call an O). Certainly better than the other options we've heard about, anyway.

I don't want any of the Grudens anywhere near this franchise.

The dude was the Jags OC when they went 1-15. The 3 years he was with the Bengals he started with a rookie AJ Green and Andy Dalton. Granted Dalton isn't exactly a world beater, but he also had Andrew Whitworth in their prime on the OL.

As underwhelming as the other options might be, this one is just bad.

They're all bad. It's this or the guy who couldn't win more than 3 games in a season at ECU.

"The Carolina Panthers are continuing to talk to several folks about their open offensive coordinator job, but have already spoken and interviewed seven candidates - Mike Groh (Colts WRs coach), Scottie Montgomery (Colts RBs coach), Ben McAdoo (Cowboys consultant), Luke Getsy (Packers QBs coach), Tim Kelly (former Texans OC), Klint Kubiak (Vikings OC), and Jay Gruden."-FanNation.com

So is Gruden the best man for the job when compared to the other 6 who have interviewed?

IMO I might put Getsy and Kubiak ahead of him (maybe Kelly too), but he does have more coaching experience and OC experience than most of the other candidates. I think that was the main criteria Rhule said he wanted.

Well if he doesn't bring Watson with him then sure, why not.

He is easy to not like and that makes it easier for me to keep laughing at this mess and the shmear job being done. The only good candidates won't even take an interview so we are talking about getting at best the top of the dregs.

    • meh, if they could of merely got the most AVERAGE of ACC QB play from either of his 5 star QBs.....they would have been in the college playoff every year during this "down window".  That's not the transfer portal getting him. That's 2 back to back 5 star QBs not even being middle of the road ACC caliber.  Maybe it will get him.  I don't think he cares.  Which isn't a secret.
    • I have to say that I agree with you. His first year I took a wait and see approach to his moves. After that first season I was very skeptical of him and when he turned down the Rams offer for Burns that's when I knew we were screwed. The trade up in the draft finished it off. I began to hate the guy and that was it for me.
    • I think largely, he is going to stick with his model.  He wants kids to come to Clemson buy in.  Spend 4 years.  Get their degree.  Leave as better people.  and I think there still will be a place for that model.  Every parent nor kid is going to chase a new check every year.  Dabo offers an environment that is appealing to a lot of southern families.  It's not like the Clemson boys aren't getting money either.  I mean people love to hate on Dabo, call him fake.....then ignore how his dudes have stuck around pre NIL with first round NFL money on the table......and just wanted to stay and be college kids there with him.  I mean, especially DL talent.   Dabo ain't fake.  You ain't got to like him and 100% get that.  He isn't going to be everyone cup of tea.
