We got

an elite LT (will need to develop some pass protection skills)

A QB who could be starting at some point late in the 2022 season

A LB (Smith) who could compete for a starting position

An Edge who could work into the rotation at some point.

And if you want to get technical, we got CJ Henderson and Sam Darnold

We had what i feel was  a very good draft considering we went into it minus our #2 and #3 draft choice.

If they thought he was a franchise QB they would have taken him at 6. They know he isn't.

And no one else did either. Russell Wilson is the anomaly here. Most third round QBs are gonna play like third round QBs. See Will Grier.

And let me be clear, I don't have the prospect or the position we drafted him in. Corral was my #2 guy and 3rd round is great value for a QB gamble.

I bristled at the cost of the extra 2023 third. I don't want to keep this draft deficit continuing because it seems like we have a propensity to try and "make up" for those lost picks rather than just take your medicine and re-stock.

Corral is a very good guy to gamble on. His limitations are way less than some of the other prospects.

If you count Darnold and Henderson as part of this haul you have to drop a letter grade.  But I would start with a A-.  Compare our draft to division rivals TB, ATL and NIO.  We got better IMO none of our rivals had as solid of drafts.  Ikem light years better than Penning.  Atl added a linebacker I liked but we got better value with our linebacker pick.  Tampa got a bunch of who? picks.  We did well. If Corral provides a spark next yrar, we did great.

Based on performance, but the haul is what is being evaluated.  For a second (basically) we got a former top 10 in draft QB and a mid first round CB for a third.  Both (regardless of bias) should be better in 2022, so like the rest of the draft, the jury is still out.

I agree with the NFC South comparisons. Corral, as you say, is the key to this draft.  If he becomes a starter, there are not many drafts where you find your franchise LT and QB in the same draft.

Let’s see in 3 years how we did.

Thought I'd throw up our 2019 draft.  3 yrs ago,

Certainly not an A draft.  Probably a C

  • Round 1, Pick 16: EDGE Brian Burns (Florida State)
  • Round 2, Pick 37: OT Greg Little (Ole Miss)
  • Round 3, Pick 100: QB Will Grier (West Virginia)
  • Round 4, Pick 115: EDGE Christian Miller (Alabama)
  • Round 5, Pick 154: RB Jordan Scarlett (Florida)

A typical Hurney draft. A good 1st round selection and crap after that.

Huh? We could have 4 legit starters? Icky, Smith, Henderson, Corral. If you want to put the make or break on Corral then fine…but if he’s even serviceable in year 1 then this team is competing based on defense and running game alone. The OL has a chance to dominate. I would rather be in our situation than the Giants…and the Giants graded as an “A.”

Lol. This is one of the best drafts we’ve had, at this point. Whether or not they all bust or boom is another story. Other places have given us all As and Bs so far

Our Best Draft Ever,,  probably 2001 .. real pro bowlers

#11 Dan Morgan ,

#44 Kris Jenkins,

#72 Steve Smith,

This is why everyone gets upset when we don’t get the best grades. Iky is a day 1 starter, that’s it. Corral is a 3rd round QB. I hope like hell he’s our future but he’s certainly not a guaranteed starter. Brandon Smith is a 4th round LB. It’s possible he starts but again not a guarantee. We have 1 starter and 2 hopefuls. The others are backup candidates.

Are you under the impression every other team drafted 7 new starters?

There are some straight up weirdos on this board that think they’re NFL GMs.

    • 2023 - This was a TE heavy draft and there were several productive WRs taken after Mingo. This was a GM error. 2021 - GM error again. Great IOL including Humphrey were sitting there. If we went Slater/Humphrey we could have had Garrett Wilson in 2022. 2017 - Not a horrible pick but injuries hurt. Even with missing 1.5 years of games, he’s still playing and has 4100 rushing/receiving yards and 29 TDs. We’ve done a lot worse. 2015. All I can say is better than TMJ and Jarrett. The rest after Smith don’t warrant discussion.
    • TDA hasn't been the first version we got of him before Philly (which was a surprisingly decent cheap Dougie Hamilton replacement).  However.  He doesn't need to be that, as he's not first line paired with Slavin.  Rod will hide him with 3rd line minutes. IMO, he has been decent slotting in lately and he does make an offensive impact. Hopefully he has something to prove, especially considering his presence will likely be needed beyond this game. In that sense, him jumping in/providing offensive spark could help us with a pull away road goal. The Isles are overfocused on our forwards and have lost guys in critical moments because of it. Someone like TDA pinching can take advantage of that. Hopefully he is motivated, ready to go, and that he and the rest of the team can keep their heads on a swivel, cause it's going to be chippy on the island early and often and if we can stay disciplined, this series is not coming back to Raleigh.
