Does Rhule really think he has 5 years?

We would be making a deep run in the playoffs this year. That's where we should be with a coach hired 3 years ago.

Matt Rhule was hired Jan. 8, 2020. Come back in January. It really bugs me people keep bitching about where we are after 3 years when 3 years isn't here yet.

Maybe folks are clairvoyant, but right now it's been 2 years (or 2 seasons), not 3.

This is the beginning of the third year and he should be leading his team into a deep playoff run this year. If he doesn't make that happen, he should be be fired. That's where the line is for him or any other new head coach. They should all be held to that standard. I've been saying that for a long time. This is his do or die year. If we don't have a winning record at the very least heading into the bye week he should be fired then.

Beyond the team regressing last year the biggest concern is how completely unprepared we looked.  Compounded with Rhule looking completely lost on the sidelines on multiple occasions and people rightfully started to recognize he and his staff were in over their head.

If he wants to finish this year as Panthers HC then he better at least know the rules of the game and where the game clock is situated in his field of view.  There were embarrassments last year that just aren't acceptable for a professional football coach and that's not even considering how embarrassing the fugging team was.

Also zero adjustments during the games. Once figured out they just kept pushing the same vanilla game plans and blaming it on execution. The slow mundane obvious losses weren't even watchable, it was so obvious we were gonna see the same things over and over again until the clock ran out

so many opinions dujour

If Tepper told him to build in 5 years and we went all Defense the first draft, then it looks like they are follwing that plan.

Now, we have secured the offense in many areas and will need a QB if Darnold and Corrall do not work out.

Probably not far from a 10 win season and all you day to day guys changing your tunes.  Why draw so many lines in the sand?

I think Tep needs to simmer down with this whole 5/6 year thing, you’re basically telling players like cmc their prime will be wasted

i also am not sure what they think when historically it’s actually only 3 years for new coach to bring in success

if you really think it takes 5-6 years, fine but that takes a reset, a tank of some sort, and trade your guys and stock picks

Rhule at yesterday’s press conference when asked about the Sean Peyton report

“With regards to that report, first I heard of it was Dave called me and told me that it was going to come out,” Rhule said. “They had called him, that there was nothing to it. I know Dave Tepper well enough to believe he wouldn’t be talking to another coach right now. He came to my house two-and-a-half years ago and told me this is a five-year rebuild. That’s what he said to me. He convinced me then to come be a part of it and build it with him. We’re not where we want to be. I don’t think it’s gonna take five years, I don’t want it to take five years, but those are the words he said to me.”

I get that it takes time to build a team for sustainable success, but if he thinks he has 5 years regardless, he is just delusional. You have to show incremental progress and especially that you are capable of learning from your mistakes, getting better as a coach and developing your players. If he loses rhe locker room with college antics like DBO, Tepper will have no choice but to fire him.

It is very clear that Rhule is in deeper water with the fanbase  than he is with Tepper .  I don't think its because Rhule is taking his time.  Part of it, is he tried to rush the rebuild.

Rhule didn't want to be patient and draft and develop a QB.  He didn't want to wait until Teddy's contract ran out.  So he created a ton of dead cap, spent 3 draft picks, and brought in, statistically, the worst QB from one of the worst teams, thinking he and his staff could coach him up.  Then when Sam got hurt, he still thought he could make the playoffs so he brought Cam into horrible situation.   He fired Brady midseason hoping that a change in direction on O could spark something.  Instead the O got worse. He neglected the OL, so he could trade down and play BPA in the draft.

These were all shortcuts trying to jump the line and rebuild faster.  It is these very moves that have pissed off the fanbase.  Rhule has never acted like he has 5 years.  He acted desperate in year 2.

Now Rhule has shifted gears and has drafted a QB and the best LT in the draft, building the way many of us  wanted last year.    They have shown the OL some love in FA and he has brought in, on paper, a pretty experienced NFL coaching staff who has shown success in their positions.

As for the DBO, I hate it.  It does feel HS/college, except Belichek and Flores do a version of it.   He's trying to imitate NFL coaches here.

I'd recommend certain posters relax on trying to bash a bunch of anonymous people online.  Has no place in discussion.  And It's a post-pandemic 2022 (not 1994) and we're all on the internet.  And I imagine we're mostly from our phones.  Maybe we're in line at the store, watching a kids ballgame, waiting on a SO to finish cleaning so you can go to a brunch, or getting ready for a furry party.  Maybe someone's sick, working the weekend and on a break, it's life.  Everyone isn't some basement dweller and the fact you keep bringing it up incessantly shows on you, not the people you're making assumptions about.

I just don’t get how people don’t take into consideration that it’s possible Rhule was told to lose last year after cam proved to be unable to win on Sunday’s with this roste. All for draft positioning. For all that is leaking out about the nfl this sounds like legit possibilities inside the front offices..
