He went from the 2nd graded player on our OL to possibly our best backup/depth.  It shows how much we have put into getting this OL better.

Oh boy.....I think we better not start counting those chickens yet.

I remember boatloads of Huddlers trying to justify why Cam Erving and Pat Elflein were good signings. That was a fuging disaster.

I think, that is if you don't mind. I am going to rate Bozeman, and Corbet way better signings than the 2 from last year. Throw in Mays. And we have the makings of a really good Oline.

This Oline, and the roster as a whole. Is much better than is was just 2 short years ago.

Regardless of how they turn out a huge effort was made by our staff to address this weakness.  Corbett and Bozeman have been solid starters plus 2 draft picks with one being in the top 10 (arguable the best OL in the draft) shows we are serious about fixing this.  If they don't work out I can't be too mad at Fitt and Company for trying.  Throw in our new OL coach as well.

I do get what you are staying though.  I'm not crowning them out best OL in history or anything, just glad a serious effort was made to address this issue.

Fear of the past only clouds your judgement of the future.

The future is bright and exciting.

The past is gloomy and dark.

The future holds great promise.

The past holds fear and misery.

Give me the bright future every time.

Well we were supposedly "serious" last year with Erving and Elflein too. I like the Corbett and Bozeman signings a lot more. I like that we finally invested in a LT in the first round.

But.....the staff has worked very hard to get a QB as well, right? Arguably the hardest in the NFL. What has been the net result so far?

So, while I want to get excited about the OL, I have completely lost faith in the ability of our franchise to consistently make intelligent decisions on personnel.

At this point this is what their persistent failings have reduced my opinion to. I gotta see these guys do it on the field first. I need to see some cohesive OL play. I need actual results before I get optimistic about it. They lost all benefit of the doubt.

Bozeman can play guard at a high level.  Might not be crazy to think that Bozeman is our LG and BC is our C.  Lots of options

Using the SWAG method. I foresee our starting Oline thusly.

LT-Icky

LG-MAYS

C-Bozzy

RG-Corbett

RT-Moton

Let these guys work, and let Brady be first off the bench.

Might be asking a lot of a late round rookie to start at LG right away. I would say don't overlook some of the vets like Michael Jordan or Pat Elflein. I think those two guard spots aren't exactly locked in.

Well, they shouldn't be anyway. I definitely don't want a replay of 2021 where we see spots basically gifted to the overpaid FA scrubs we signed.

I get being skeptical.  Campen wasn't there to sign off on last year's OL (who weren't in the same level as Bozeman or Corbett).  He also is going to be the one developing them with McAdoo running the offense.  MUCH different than Brady and whoever our OL coach was last year.

The QB issue is different because we constantly struck out on our top choices like Stafford, Russ, Watson etc... Rhule tried to get fancy and sign OL that can play multiple positions (just none that well).  They tried a much more proven tactic this year in signing proven starters for FA OL.  If there were serious about getting a QB the proper way we would have drafted Mac or Fields to compete with Darnold, but instead we thought we were smarter than everyone else and could develop him Darnold into something he isn't.  Two totally different scenarios IMO if they helps you feel better about the situation.

I'm not saying these OL will be the greatest, but pairing a great OL coach in Campen with proven OL talent in Bozeman, Corbett, and Moton plus a high potential pick in Icky should have a much greater chance at success than past years.

LT- Icky, RG-Corbett, and RT-Moton are pretty much the givens.  Bozeman is going to either play LG or C which leaves one open position.  I could see us starting with LT-Icky, LG- Bozeman, C-Elf, RG- Corbett, and RT-Moton to have 4 capable vets to help develop Icky.  If Icky develops fast then Bozeman can slide to C and one of the younger guys in Brown, Mays, or BC might get their shot at LG.

Love the Icky pick, but he will have some issues pass blocking early on this season.  He has all the tools to be great physically and mentally.  He should be a stud at run blocking pretty quickly.

Jordan should be gone. Let's get that out of the way right off the bat. Elfien is good depth, which is fine.

As for Mays? Starting LG in the SEC, with the attitude to match. Put him and Icky together, and let them grow together for the next 2 decades.

The ONLY spot on the Oline open for competition? LG. And we have Mays, Brady, and maybe even Brown to work into that spot.

Our line is going to be much improved, an actual strength.

A little bit of tweaking, and a little bit of luck. And this roster will be solid. And YOUNG

I assume you mean LG; Corbett will be the starter at RG.

Well damm. There goes my perfect record. lol

Thank goodness for that edit button.

I don't share your overall unbridled optimism for a few reasons, but no question that the OL (players and Campen alike) appears to have taken a massive leap forward. If things pan out to even half of the potential that exists then that will be a large boost to the foundation of the offense.

    • I think you're being short sighted, if you need a wr next year draft one or get one in FA.  I guarantee that if we double dip at wr and one gets 30 targets, 90% of the huddle will call him a bust and want another wideout next year
