The main thing this team is missing is closers. Big time goal scorers. Make a run at a 40 goal scorer FA like Johnny Gaudreau, and sign a vet looking for a cup like Claude Giroux. Build the team to make a run. The core is there. Fill it out with quality players to put them over the top.

Agree with all of that. 100%. I would add develop Koochie.

Claude Giroux is not signing with us.

Our biggest problem is our goalie situation and our top guys becoming ghosts in the big moments.  Biggest thing is upgrading in net....would have loved to seen how we were with Andersen, but he was hurt worse than anyone thought.

Refs didn't help either.....on to the next play.

Why not? Hurricanes are a great situation for him. Two centers Trocheck & Domi are FA. Niederreiter too. Replace Niederreiter by throwing money at a top scoring winger like Johnny Gaudreau and get a vet center looking for a cup. This team needs more scoring firepower to contend.

We do need a scoring specialist. That's something that has held us back for years. Also Anderson picked a terrible time to get hurt. We were not going to keep getting lucky.

Johnny Hockey would be a great add but he’s going to command a lot of money that would likely price us out creating a competitive roster.

A lot depends on KK, they need him to develop into a 60 point two way center that can play in the top six. If he doesn’t then we could be in trouble next year as I don’t think we can afford a player like Johnny Hockey and a 2C.

Keep in mind, the Hurricanes will also need a 3LW, and a 4LW. They’ll also need to resign TDA and ideally upgrade the top four (I’d do it via trade).

Svechnikov - Aho - Teravainen

Gaudreau (FA) - Kotkaniemi - Jarvis

Niederreiter (FA) - Staal - Fast

Aston-Reese (FA) - Drury - Martinook

Noesen (FA)

Slavin - Pesce

Chychrun (Trade) - DeAngelo (FA)

Skjei - Chatfield

Keane (FA)

Andersen

Kochetkov

- The SAT line that had a lot of success is reunited.

- An elite winger in Gaudreau is added and Kotkaniemi is elevated to 2C. Hopefully playing with Gaudreau and Jarvis would allow him to develop into two-way sixty point player.

- Nino takes a team friendly deal and is brought back.

- The Canes add grit in Aston-Reese and Drury is elevated from Chicago. The Canes also bring back Stefan Noesen who lit it up in Chicago this past year and can fill in for Aston-Reese.

- Slavin and Pesce are reunited.

- The Canes ship Necas, Raanta, a first round pick, and a B+ prospect like Jamieson Rees for Jakob Chychrun and DeAngelo is resigned.

- Chatfield is brought up from Chicago

- Keane is resigned to be the 7th defenseman.

- Kochetkov replaces Raanta

In: Gaudreau, Niederreiter, Aston-Reese, Drury, Noesen, Chychrun, DeAngelo, Chatfield, Keane, Kochetkov

Out: Trocheck, Necas, Domi, Lorentz, Stepan, Bear, Cole, Smith, Raanta

This would likely take the Canes all the way to the $82.5M salary cap.

He is one of those players who just doesn't think Carolina is a good landing spot.  When he was going to be moved at the trade deadline he was only rumored to be interested in moving to one or two different teams with Florida being his preference.

I don't know the team's feelings about KK, but we'll know when either Nino or Tro get signed.  If they think he's best at center then Nino is the priority, if they think he can produce at wing then possibly Tro.

I would be surprised if they gave up on Necas, but if a deal is out there that the FO thinks is worth it I could see him being included in it.

No one has mentioned Drury and I think unless he performs poorly in camp he makes the team next year.

Again, our weakness without knowing how Andersen would have performed in the playoffs, is goalie until proven otherwise.  That and not having any scoring even on the PP has to be fixed in order for this team to be able to win a Stanley Cup again.

The team's feelings about KK are they signed him to an offer sheet with $4.82M for the next 6 years. He's a C and that's where he'll be next year.

RBA did everything from benching him to tweaking lines to playing him at both wings to see what works. And, apparently, nothing has. RBA has to be frustrated, and Necas's future in Raleigh depends on how frustrated.

Drury will be on the roster next year. The issue is he's only a center and has no experience on the wing. He'll stay in Raleigh next year if Domi isn't re-signed.
