If Atkinson tries to slow the style of play down that our team is accustomed to then this will be a disaster.

Maybe our team should be accustomed to doing more than shooting 50 3s a game and praying we shoot 50+% to win, like play some defense.

Its exciting when you win. How exciting is losing by 30+ in play-in games with that style of play.

I think there’s give and take. The offense doesn’t necessarily need an overhaul. I understand that there could be some correlation between quick shots and poor defense as the more running there is, the more likely it is for someone to get tired… and what do players stop playing when they get tired… defense. However, I think that can be solved with better rotations. Our team is built to run and our best player wants to run. There was a coach tailor made for his skill set out there and his only fault is that he’s poor defensively. I’ll also mention that Brooklyn fans absolutely hated Atkinson’s rotations.

I think the correct decision would have been to hire D’Antoni with the contingency that there would be a defensive specialist that was coming along with him. I personally think Atkinson overhauling the culture could easily drive some guys away.

The bottom line is that Atkinson and Brooklyn’s best players didn’t see eye to eye and that’s why he was fired… that’s not exactly a good look.

I would have been fine with D'Antoni as a short term solution but the man is 71 years old let's be real about this. We weren't going to get Ham because why would he choose Charlotte over the Lakers. As long as Kenny Atkinson has learned from his past and is not stubborn as a mule like Borrego was he has a solid chance of being successful here.

Yawn, I'll continue to be a Hornets fan for the last 3 games of the year when they are scrambling for the play in tourney, to then get beat by 30 and eliminated.

Watching 82 games of this team, coached by this guy, will be maddening.

Not sure why, but I expected more from Mitch and Michael.

I don’t know a great deal about him, but are we really concerned he didn’t get along with Kyrie Irving? Who actually do get along with Kyrie?

The rest of his coaches haven’t had an issue with him. And it’s not just Kyrie, it was Durant as well.

Also feel very concerned about this hire. I didn’t like how his tenure ended in Brooklyn and it was made known by both Irving and Durant that they didn’t like Atkinson’s culture.

Regarding Irving and Durant not liking his culture, that’s probably a really good thing.

Irving has proven to be nothing short of a locker room cancer and Durant showed his judgement when he chose to leave Golden State to start a super team with Irving.

Atkinson runs a tight ship and while that’s nice, there has to be some give and take, especially with our young group. If there isn’t any give and take, I can see this going south real quickly. If Atkinson tries to essentially put his style of play on guys like LaMelo and Bridges then they’ll be gone before you know it.

Would have preferred D’Antoni with an assistant coach specially brought in for defense.

If Durant and Kyrie Irving don’t like your culture you’re doing something right. The Nets have been so much better with Nash running them lol.

It’s not just an Irving and Durant thing, all superstars have a sense of entitlement to them. If you can’t work with them then you won’t be successful… that’s really all there is to it.

Look at this years finals… Tatum and company couldn’t work with Steven’s so they moved him to an executive position.

Coached have to stop treating adults like children, it doesn’t work in the NBA.

The Nets went through more poo than any other team in the league this year so I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a good comparison. It’ll be more telling what Nash does this year.

With that said, hopefully Atkinson learned to get a long with star players in his time with Los Angeles and Golden State. If not then you’ll see guys who are free spirited players like Ball and Bridges leave. They don’t need an overhaul in the way that they play. They need someone to guide them on playing a two way game.

If Atkinson tries to tear this whole thing down and rebuild it from scratch then we’ll be in a worse situation than we were with Borrego.

My daughter is currently banging her head against her crib and that's about how I feel.  Would have loved snider. I think we should have just kept jb

Also agree, and so do a lot of NBA pundits. If Atkinson was going to be the hire then stick with the guy you already have who is also known to be a player developer and ask him to overhaul some of his assistants to bring in a defensive minded assistant coach like Kidd did with Sweeney.

Atkinson’s strengths and weaknesses look nearly identical to that of Borrego’s.

From Nets Fan’s…

Atkinson is a culture builder and describes his style of coaching similar to that of a college program. He’s good at player development but struggles as an in-game coach and his rotations are poor.
