Its a common tale of coaches being fired and landing on their feet, sometimes even in  a better job.  Its called the coaching carousel for a reason.  It doesn't just happen to coaches leaving the Panthers.

Yes, unless you were really bad, finding a new comparable gig is relatively normal for coaches.

that was brought up when discussing Ben McAdoo and the fact he couldn’t find a demoted gig even with bad teams.

Or Wilks who had to drop down to college.

Tabor took a lateral move.  Wilks went down to college and back up.  Campen has done a series of lateral moves across the league.

Wilks still was able to get a DC job in the NFL directly after being fired as a HC.   Then he went to college.

Ben McAdoo remains unique.  And that was because he was trainwreck.  Which is why he doesn’t compare to everyone else.   It took a comparable trainwreck to himself to finally get a coordinator job after years of searching

Wilks first season as head coach: 3-13, fired.

McAddo first season as head coach 11-5, playoffs.

Go ahead do your excuses and twister logic.

I see you are all over the map.  I guess you have to be.  You have to as you break your back defending Rhule and his “prized” McAdoo.

the convo was fired coaches.  And their ability to land a lateral move or take step back as the norm.

All the coaches named did that.  You posted a about it being normal.  It is.  Unless you are a nightmare.

McAdoo was a nightmare. And he couldn’t land a demoted OC gig after he was fired despite years and years of searching because he was a nightmare.  Even with bad teams.  It took nightmare Rhule for that to changed

He is a retread alias that really doesnt deserve your time.  His "arguments" are LOL funny.  The way he is defending these coaches and Baker makes me think he is related to rhule

Speaking of Baker:

The Athletic has a write up on all the qbs from different gm's.

https://theathletic.com/3443022/2022/07/25/nfl-best-quarterbacks-tiers/

Our own Mayfield falls into tier 3, 19 overall.  Baker and rhule are about to send us into nfl purgatory

19. Baker Mayfield

Mayfield cost the Panthers $5.5 million in salary and a 2024 fifth-round pick that could upgrade to a fourth-rounder. That’s a bargain when Sam Darnold is the alternative. But it’s not necessarily the answer.

“Baker is not showing up at training camp and (instantly) becoming a 2 for Carolina,” a GM said.

“I think he’s a 3 with upside, an interesting guy,” a head coach said.

“He needs to get humbled fast or his career is going to be over,” a quarterbacks coach said.

Mayfield has been better than Darnold, but he’s had better players around him, and more favorable structure.

“If he is humbled and wants to learn and grow and become a better quarterback and develop, Baker can probably be solid then — Jimmy Garoppolo-ish solid,” a defensive coordinator said.

A head coach from a team with an upper-tier quarterback raised an interesting point regarding Mayfield’s departure from the Browns.

“Something is missing there, and I don’t know what it is,” the head coach said. “I like his feistiness. I’m OK with that. He’s not bad, but there’s not one player that stuck up for him during this whole thing. Not one guy said, ‘Hey, this is my guy.’ So, I don’t know. If you put the tape on, his play is not brutal.”

An evaluator suggested Mayfield was “average at best” despite playing in “the most quarterback friendly system there is” with Cleveland.

“I think everything has to be perfect to win with those guys,” this evaluator said before Mayfield was traded to Carolina. “I don’t know where Baker goes and makes an appreciable difference.”

There are definitely good points here.  I do have one question.  Which Cleveland Brown system is "the most QB friendly system there is?"  The one with Hugh Jackson (his first coach, Freddie Kitchen (his second), or the current coach who he had for one healthy season (2020) and put up great numbers?  He had 3 different coaches in the span of 3 healthy years with a 4th year where he got banged up week 2.  I still find him middle tier with still some potential.  2 good years (rookie and 2020 season) and 2 bad years (Kitchens and injuries in 2021).   I know a lot of QBs can make similar excuses, but the big thing (for me at least) is he has flashed potential (rookie season on the previous worst team in the league) and shown he can play at a high level (2020 season).  If we can't find success with him, Rhule and Baker should be off the team next year.

I think we all know that this is a QB competition in name only.  Baker is going to be QB1, Week 1 versus Cleveland.  They would not have made this deal if they were comfortable with Darnold being the starting QB again this year.

I agree that they couldn't hand over the reins to Darnold without seeing some real change and may have been pressed to put Corral in before he was ready

Baker ensures we get decent qb play but I expect Darnold to play the best he has since being signed. It is a contract year and he has the best weapons and line he has ever has.  Let's get ready to rumble and let the chips fall where they may.

Everyone expects Baker to be a bust or boom. I think he will help us get to 9-8 which would be excellent. Then let him play another year in the same system and see if we improve. He isn't a top tier qb yet but he is still young and has a lot to learn. I figure that Rhule and his process is actually exactly what Baker needs. If he buys in he can be here a while and become the franchise guy for us. Or a one year rental if he doesn't.

We tried to trade for Mayfield during the draft.

As far as Rhule not wanting him, the only source I've ever seen say that was the guy on the huddle who had nothing to back it up.

No there were definitely some articles that said that Rhule was the one not sold on him.

Our buddy Ellis for one.

You mean this one where he said Rhule appears to still be lead chair?   It says the exact opposite of what you said.    What exactly from John Ellis says that he has some source that Tepper reigned in Rhule?

Ellis... 🤣😂😆😜🤦‍♂️🥳

    • It makes sense. It needs to fit the need. I am ignoring subtlety, but you don’t hire a heavy metal band for a church picnic. I hope.  Fitting needs has been a fuging problem with all the yearly changes in HC, DC, OC, they need to settle that down.
    • For one thing, do you guys think we are gonna be some shootout survivors? Or do you think we still need to limit the other offense?  And why don’t we let the new management decide who is in play at WR, that is here already? I expect a WR to be taken. I still hold to the idea that our QB doesn’t recognize or can’t execute NFL open. It is an issue he needs to get straight. But, I get it and have no issue with 33 or 39 being WR.  If later on we think we can make a great bet on a guy that was overlooked, fine.  But let’s don’t pretend the defense doesn’t need to get buttoned up and if there is a top talent, deal with it.
