Precisely so the NFL could say "See we're not lame and soft and hypocritical, we came down harder on Watson than a female judge. Clearly we're hardcore about disciplining out of line players. RAWR!"

I imagine his contract had plenty of built in clauses to keep the Browns from paying him.

Believe it or not, they specifically wrote the contract in a way that allows them to keep paying him.

I've worked some sh-tty jobs in my time, but I can't imagine what it's like to work in public relations for the Browns right now

There is a very good chance that  most people can turn things around if they want to.  There are some people who have issues/flaws that are so deeply seeded in their character...they will not get better.  Psychiatry calls these personality disorders and Watson seems to fall somewhere on the narcissism antisocial spectrum.  Now, they can learn to manipulate things in their favor...say the right things, modify behavior for a while to stay out of trouble.  But, they do not truly change. Which is a sad thing.

I hope he gets the help he needs, and changes for the better.
