Signing a rookie without a knee to be QB 2 with two weeks left to go before the season seems like…not a great move.

Dude might not have it unfortunately. 

I was a big supporter of his in the draft process but it's not a good sign that he couldn't make it.

Nah, a big arm but that's about it.  Dude is statuesque in the pocket.   Plenty of highlights of bombs down the field, but skimpy on window throws, boundary throws and timing routes.  Not to mention his ability/inability to read defenses.   Yes, having a big arm is key to being an NFL QB, but that can't be it.

Big arm is more of a bonus.  I think the most important factors are..

1. Can you process the field correctly in the short amount of time you have?  Probably the most important thing.

2. Are you consistently accurate on the intermediate throws?  Very important for 3rd and medium-long and red zone effectiveness.

If you can answer yes to both of those, you have a good QB.

There's a reason why he wasn't drafted, and it's bc he has bone on bone in his knee. He has zero mobility and would have a limited time frame to have a proper career. He should move on with his life.

Not just mobility, it will also fug with how you throw.

He can't plant well. That's also hurting him a lot.
