What do you want from him? He can't change his competition. You still have NFL offenses who were scared to throw his way last year. In a league where Carson Wentz and Joe Flacco are throwing 300+ yards per week this year, you can't just say he's no good because he shutdown mediocre opposition. Especially when he did it as a rookie. I'm not sitting here anointing him as the 2nd coming of Darrell Revis; I'm willing to acknowledge that the book is still unwritten on him. That's all I'm asking the haters to do as well.

There isn't a thread where I have bashed Horn one time this season.  He is a rookie.  He is supposed to take the lumps and learn.   It's totally normal.  And I don't freak out because he is handsy.  We drafted a handsy corner that was going to have to learn to play at this level and that opportunity was robbed of him last year.

just pointing out that part of the reason some, not me, are hard on him presently.....is because some built him into something he wasn't.  He wasn't a shutdown corner last season.   He was a rookie that played against trainwreck offenses.

and I can seperate the fact we shouldn't be drafting CBs in the top 10 given the state of our franchise at the time from the fact that Horn himself was a great prospect.  Both were true.

That's fair. I just disagree on the shutdown aspect. There's a clear difference between this year and last year. No one could get open on Horn last year. He had them smothered and QBs just ignored his side because there was nowhere to throw. Meanwhile this year, his stats are certainly aided by the fact that the qb on the opposing team wasn't talented enough to take advantage of his lapses in coverage and when they did, he had a tendency to commit a penalty to stop it. If you are arguing the same thing was the case last year, I definitely didn't see that and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree which is fine. I'm attributing the difference to rust and recovery from his injury. I don't know if you are saying he was every bit as shaky last year but the offenses were so terrible it didn't matter. If so, that's where we would definitely disagree.

Good QBs make plays to good WRs that are "covered". Horn to date, still hasn't experienced what life is even like as a NFL CB because he hasn't faced a single good QB.  Nor has he faced a good QB paired with a good WR.

I just think too many overstated what he was going into this season.  Horn isn't a lock down corner.  He hasn't had the opportunity to even make that case yet.  But it shouldn't really be something people are looking for yet IMO.

i really liked the idea of an innovative guy who was into analytics and had turned a couple programs around. still a good idea. we just don't have that guy. i thought that coming from college where things are more progressive would have been an asset, and with the right guy it might be. the problem...one of quite a few...is that coaching kids in college is a different beast than coaching grownups. totally different mentality. someone good at one very well won't be good at the other. people generally coach at the level they are best suited. one thing is for sure, you can't do the same things at one you do at the other. it's not "all just football".

and no...mccarthy wouldn't have been much better. we'd still suck, it would just be a different kind of suck.

College is more about talking to parents and selling them. The NFL is more about understanding what the offensive and defensive norm is and coming up with solutions to that problem. Every team has great players that do this as a job. Rhule is just out of his depth and it's why we don't win.

I mean we have Horn playing soft zone 5 yards off the LOS with Chinn trying to play FS and Burns (our only pass rusher) dropping back into coverage on 3rd and long.  No wonder teams are converting....

Can we send this to Phil Snow?  Watching them rush 3 dropping burns into coverage made me want to physically puke.

At the end of the day, our defense is good enough to win a super bowl...they are ninth in the league despite being on the field so much and having short fields because of the terrible offense. It's picking nits at this point until the offense gets fixed.

Good analysis

Bro I shouldnt have to spell it out for you.  But here goes.  We have zero takeaways, 4 sacks and we played one backup qb and daniel effing jones.  Beating your chest and proclaiming this is a super bowl defense is retarded at best.

Also where are you seeing they are the 9th best?  I would love to look at those stats

People are hating on him because he was taken at a very high draft spot but has not produced any game changing plays.

Derrick Brown 2.0 so far.

Just another on the list of Rhules crappy draft failures.

One hit in 3 seasons and that is Chinn who they want to play 20- yards off the LoS so he cant make plays.
