Brian Burns has more sacks than any other player in NFL history under 25 years old

Without a doubt, but in Burns' case, it is doubly important. He doesn't have the mass to successfully take on doubles all game long.

I still think he was picked to, and made for, playing as an OLB in a 3-4 defense.

He struggled in both sets. He's too small for a 4-3 and too slow in coverage to play a 3-4. He's a tweener that's not very good in either set.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Very Fari, to your point, I think Brian Burns compares more as a pass rush/DE to Von Miller than anyone else.

Health is a big factor and staying on the field makes a big difference. CMC has been downgraded by many folks due to injury concerns even though a few years ago he was recognized as the best running back in the league.  Bosa is a different DE than Burns and aren't really directly comparable other than general stats.

Why can you not compare the two when they play the same position and have the same responsibilities (rush the passer, defend the run)?  Can we not say for example that Brian Burns is a better DE than Yetur Gross-Matos simply because they are two different types of DEs?  Can we not say Lamar Jackson is a better QB than Mac Jones because their QB style is different?  I can acknowledge two players are different while also being able to acknowledge whether one is more impactful and playing at a higher level.  If you're comparing two different players at two different positions, then yeah I'd agree with you that it's tricky to directly compare the two.

In some areas, but he's not anywhere near his quality yet. Von has a killer instinct that even goes beyond what most pass rushers have. I'm not sure if Burns has that much of one.

Burns has only been a starter for 2 (now moving on to 3) seasons, in part because of his age. Over the last 2+ seasons, Burns is top ten in sacks, close to that in hits, and is the youngest player in that group (Bosa is close at 25 - the rest are 3+ years older than Burns).

I do get the concern he hasn't taken over games, etc. And I think that he is a very good, but not yet an all pro DE.

I'm going to play around with AV because I think the expected value of the trades was probably not actually worth Burns' production over the last couple years.

Uhhh - Burns has started nearly every game in his NFL career.  He’s a 4 year starter

He definitely has not. People complained about his usage year 1 and he's only recorded as having 5 starts that year.  He was used as a passing down specialist (hence why he had like, half the tackles of his other years).

edit: He was in on 43% of D snaps in 2019, about half of what the percentage he is in on this year.

edit2: 2019 was also the year we tried the 3-4, right? And he was the OLB in it? He would do much better in a 3-4.

People around here complain about anything, doesn’t mean Burns wasn’t used lol.  He has seen a ton of field time.  I’d argue this year he’s on the field more than most DEs.  Yet he has never had double digit sacks (should this year I assume).

my main issue with Burns are all the plays he doesn’t make.  The man has so many missed tackles, whiffs, and poor angles that it is maddening.  He simply is not a consistent, 3 down player.
